MONTEREY, Calif. -- Central Coast Democratic Rep. Sam Farr is apologizing for comments he made about the presidential race.
When asked why the results in California were so different than the rest of the country, Farr told the Monterey Herald: "I think if the rest of country had invested in higher education like California, you would have had a more educated electorate and a California outcome in the rest of the country."
"It was the night after the election. Everybody was sort of wondering why the blue states, why the red states. I thought I'd say, 'Look, the blue states are the big university states.' I mean, it was an off-handed comment and it's surprising that there's this kind of reaction to it," Farr said.
Incensed voters wrote letters to the Herald blasting Farr's remarks as disparaging and called his local office to complain.
On Tuesday, Farr apologized.
"If my comment offended somebody, I'm sorry. It was meant in humor," he said.
Farr returns to Congress next week. He commented on the session ahead.
"We go back into session next week and we will see the President has got to propose to the Congress what he wants in this agenda and I think if he does what he says and he steers from the middle, then you're going to have a Congress that's collaborative," he said.
The defeat of Tom Dascle makes California's Nancy Pelosi the top Democrat in Congress. Farr said she will take charge of where the Democrats go next
I've worked with California college graduates. Almost without fail, they are typically the most ignorant, inept and utterly clueless jackwits on the face of planet Earth. I've met high school graduates from Iowa who are more on the ball than those Californians. But I can't really blame the California kids; their schools failed them long before they ever made it to college.
The Democrat plan to make inroads in the "red states" continues. Calling voters stupid is going to win for them in 08.
i.e., sent all their young people to leftwing brainwashing for four years.
C'mon 'rats, continue to insult the electorate. That'll garner you more votes in upcoming elections. Geez.
Why is it when the Dems make stupid remarks and then have to apologize they always say it was a "joke" - anybody see anything funny about his remarks?!
No. It didn't sound like he was joking to me.
I'd be willing to bet the average Republican has more education than the average Democrat.
i would bet big bucks that the average education of rep is much better than demo...... shall we do a study....
..."I think if the rest of country had invested in higher education like California, you would have had a more educated electorate and a California outcome in the rest of the country."...
Hahahahahahahahaha!
BUMP
This is so arrogant and mean spirited. How could a democrat act that way? LOL
Well, you don't have to be equally as tacky do you?
Obviously all that education didn't help in this guy's case.
Is Sam Farr beatable? Somehow I doubt it with Monterey, but I have to ask.
Every now and then a Dim gets so carried away with its pathological lying and/or overheated rhetoric that even its media lackeys have to bust it. The "I was only joking!" bit is the standard playbook response - the Rats use it claim they were misunderstood out of ignorance or spite. IOW, it's the way they make themselves victims.
Not yet. But as he advances into the leadership he is moving left and eventually will get too far even for this area.
