This isn't exactly a head of state event. I don't see why he needs to attend. Protocol has nothing to do with it.
Clinton is an embarrassment to the nation. I wouldn't do one thing to raise his visibility.
I agree with you...that's why I posted this. At first, I thought...Ok, he is the sitting President...but then I thought...No, this guy desicrated that office....It is wonderful though that Bush (43) will probably be sitting my Bush(41) and I LOVE IT!!!

I suppose this is W's way of honoring "Laura the Librarian" which gives him a lot of opportunities to dump on the MSM and everyone else who claims he doesn't read books.
His best joke at a Bill Buckley roast; "Bill Buckley wrote a book - I read one" it was hilarious.
Dubya should excuse himself by stating "Thanks for the invite, but I've done all the readin' necessary ..and I have a war goin' on"

President Bush needs to be thinking about his own Presidential Library, where it will be built and how he will raise money for its construction.
To: IndianPrincessOK
It will be the first Presidential library to be dedicated by removing a plain brown wrapper from around the building..

Since W took over he has been very gracious to Slick. He thanked them for their service to the nation at his inaugural and was again gracious at the WH portrait unveiling so this isn't a surprise. Those are the two instances I recall. They have probably crossed paths like at the Reagan funeral and some other events also.

Excerpt:
Who is to blame when a historic landmark is lost? Part of the blame belongs to a throw-away society that places little premium on historical structures. Some of the blame must accrue to preservationists and historians who failed to recognize the significance of this structure hidden within May Supply Company. Most of the blame, however, must go to the Clinton Library Foundation and the City of Little Rock, neither of whom showed any evidence of a good faith effort to evaluate various options for keeping the station or moving a smaller representative section to a nearby site. One must also wonder why Clinton library site engineers failed to call attention to this historical building during the early stages of the library design. Site engineers had conducted exhaustive surveys of the area, surveys which had given them access to this building while it was cocooned within other structures and effectively hidden from the public. Were the survey engineers incapable of recognizing an unquestionably historic structure, or was their silence a deliberate calculated effort to conceal details of a landmark which they considered expendible?

Yes, the trashy klintons attended the dedication of the Bush Presidential Library and then governor of Texas, George W. Bush went to the mike and said, about his father,
"...a man who entered the political arena and left with his integrity intact."
and he said about George H.W. Bush;
"...he was a war hero, loving husband...and a president who brought dignity and character and honor to the White House."
This is from a Dowdy column of Nov. 11, 1997, when I first became a Bush fan.
