Islamic school set ablaze in Netherlands
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
THE HAGUE, Netherlands -- Suspected arsonists set an Islamic elementary school on fire Tuesday amid a string of attacks following the killing of a Dutch filmmaker by an alleged Islamic extremist.
Firefighters struggled to extinguish the flames at the burning Bedir school in the southern town of Uden, where someone had scrawled "Theo Rest in Peace" in the building in homage to slain filmmaker Theo van Gogh, but the building was destroyed in the blaze.
Uden Mayor Joke Kersten told Dutch television she didn't know the exact cause of the fire but suspected arson. She said the school had not been the target of prior attacks.
Arsonists attempted to burn down Protestant churches in Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amersfoort in apparent retaliation for the bombing of a Muslim elementary school in Eindhoven on Monday, police said.
Muslim sites have been the target of a half-dozen attacks in the past week. No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made.
Tensions have been high in the Netherlands in the week since the murder of Van Gogh, who was shot and stabbed in Amsterdam by an alleged Islamic radical after making a movie critical of Islam. A funeral was held for Van Gogh on Tuesday.
In Utrecht, police arrived Tuesday to find that a church window had been smashed and a container of flammable liquid thrown inside. In Amersfoort, several Molotov cocktails were thrown at the outside wall of a church.
I think we have to give Iraq a bit of time.
If they can vote like the people in Afghanistan did, then the radicals won't be able to claim they have a right to lead.l show
The terrorists are doing everything they can to kill Iraqis and make them blame the USA.
Still, once they get to vote, the terrorists will lose all legitimacy. They are a very small number of people in a very large country--and many are foreigners.
I think that women having the vote will have a very moderating effect on politics, too. Women are more concerned about people's real needs.
A lot of good things are happening in Iraq with schools, hospitals and services. Most areas have no terrorism.
You have to consider the entire picture.
Yes. We are doing our best to get the butcher of TvG freed...
I don't know exactly which sanctions you mean. If you mean the sanctions that were signed by every country except the US and Israel about withdrawing from Palestine I don't think we can compare this with the punishment of Mohammed B.
I hope MB gets life inprisonment and that his extra sentence is that he has to shower in pigs blood every day, but don't think that last bit is going to happen.
What I would want to say to radical Muslims in NL. What you want is not what you are going to get in the NL. If they want to live in a sharia controlled country they should pack their bags and move to Iran or S-Arabia.
Not that I know of.
Yes, there's no point in denying the brutality of forced conversions, killing of "apostates" etc. in Christian history. The last execution for blasphemy was held in Italy (in the Papal States) in 1826.
That said, in the West (Europe and the US), Christians on the whole are NOT killing each other over religion. (Please don't mention Northern Ireland - that's the last gasp of European communists masking as Catholics, and some truly fanatic Protestants who use the Bible to justify anything.) IOW, Christians aren't doing it now. People who interpret the Bible in murderous and fanatical ways are dealt with in Western society (like Paul Hill, the American who was executed last year for shooting an abortionist, and who had a raft of Biblical "justifications" for it.)
Many Muslims, however, are today behaving as Christian societies did 500 years ago, during the wars surrounding the Reformation. They attempted to invade and militarily subdue Europe then, and are trying again, albeit in different ways.
You are also obligated to spread Islam, abide by its 5 pillars first and foremost and then when the number of Muslims invariably reach a critical mass thru immigration or breeding, they will happily use the democratic process (or what ever other tool they are given) to bring in Islamic values and ultimately Sharia. See Malaysia.. so called "moderate Muslim" country. Any idea what's been happening on the east coast there? I've seen the transformation in person.
So I'm told by moderate Muslims.
HAHAHA. I love this line. It's called taqiyah, telling lies is permissible in Islam as long as its to further the Islamic cause. IF you do not like my source, google it further. How's that make you feel?
The Koran isn't always interpreted so literaly by educated Muslims. When we read it, we may not really appreciate the cultural context of the time and how that is reinterpreted in modern times.
I agree the Wahabbis are very backward, but all Muslims are not like OBL.
Lots of Iraqi Muslims and Kurds are very pro-Bush.
I live near Washington and I assure you that Muslims are helping the Americans in the War on Terrorism.

First, before I start, why don't you go to the American Military Cemetary in Margratten, and thank all those Americans under those headstones, one of those my grandpa, for your freedom.
Second, you wasted no time in displaying your ignorance for all to see...
Does this look like we're "Killin' all the muslims" in Iraq?
How about this?
And this?
How about this?
Go here to see all the pictures.
Do us Americans a favor...
If you're gonna sit there and insult our intelligence by demeaning our effort to do for Iraq what we did for you, at least be educated about it.
Don't you find it a bit ironic that the Washingtonian Left is willing to give Islam EVERY BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, but yet screams like rape victim when it comes to Christians?
One of your countrymen has decided to pay us a visit.
PS, when their numbers are great enough to use the democratic process to bring in sharia, they destroy the very process (democracy) that brought them into power... Besides the East Coast of Malaysia.... the Algerian elections ring a bell to you?
I was not trying to offend you with my post.
Indeed the difference between Christians and Muslims is that Muslims see the Koran as the through word but if so.. why is Turkey a secular state with millions and millions of moderate Muslims?
The French Arabist Olivier Roy has the opinion that Muslims are getting radical in the NL because of a culture-crisis. Young Turkish Muslims have their faith mixed with a strong culture. Young Morrocans do not have this strong culture and fall back on the Islam seperated from culture. These salifis are the real problem... not the entire Muslim community.
Oh, shut up. You spineless Euros are all the same, scared of your own shadow. You better believe we re-elected Dubya, we're not Spanish cowards.
Then these moderate, pluralist Muslims of which you speak are woefully derelict in confronting their radical brethren.
So I guess WE have to do it for them.
I love the line "the silence is deafening." How many moderate muslims have you talked to? How do you know they aren't decrying these attacks? And why should we assume the worst of them? It's not their fault that people who claim to share their faith are murdering bastards... I don't look to everyone on this forum waiting to hear the christians apologize every time a christian does something nasty (not that that happens NEARLY as often)
CULTURE CRISIS?
The Australian population is comprised of 30% of post-war migrants and their descendants. They came from numerous different cultures. We have folk from europe, asia, africa etc...
WHY DO ONLY MUSLIMS HAVE A CULTURE CRISIS?
Give me one instance, in the recent past, where Christians murdered non-Christians because they were non-Christian.
Islam is a scourge. A gutter religion spawned by a murderous pedophile who was more than likely, schizophrenic.
Look around the world... Africa, Asia, Europe, America... everywhere Islam bumps up against another culture, there is blood spilt.
Your English is excellent!
I often read about Iraq at www.rferl.org
I read Russian so I go there to practice. I am learning Arabic, too.
I visited Amsterdam many years ago as a student. We went to Ann Frank's house. WE all read her diary in school, so that was really neat to see.
We saw some good art galleries, too. The Rembrants. The food was great. The stairs were way too steep when I carried my backpack.
Of course, now I can barely carry my briefcase up the stairs at my school.
You might go to www.rferl.org to see informed American opinion.
You should not equate Bush's policies with what you see here some of the time.
Why? On what grounds?
What about JUSTICE for TvG? If you get this butcher freed, then there is NO justice in NL and I'd never want to live there.
This is exactly the kind of politically correct thing that has gotten Europe into the kind of mess they're in.
"Theo rests his case."
