It may very well be these two guys didn't want to stay for a second term. It's not like they were fired. Why would Bush simply not accept the resignations of two guys who wanted to leave regardless of Bush's desire that they stay or not?

Hmm, if not Scalia, then Thomas as Chief Justice. Have you ever seen/heard Thomas speak? Once in a while you can catch a bit of him on C-Span, talking to school kids or the like. He is marvelous, so inspiring, such a decent, wonderful man.

I was thinking the same. He may have a problem going through the committees as he is very competent, something the Dems can't stand.

Rudi is too pro-choice. We simply have to get enough people on the court to get abortion back to the states where it belongs.

I think they all submit them; then the president "asks" them to stay.

Evidently he didn't ask Ashcroft.

Well, if the worst thing Ashcroft did is actually just an urban legend, I'd say the man did a good job.

Dog, that is brilliant.

I am hearing that Mark Pryor will be new AG. Was very conservative AG of Alabama, then was one of Bush's judicial nominees that daschle and co, filibustered.

Former Gov. Jim Gilmore of Virginia would be a great choice, too. He was AG before he was governor and was extremely popular. Knows all about Mark Warner too.

"The DUmmies are probably having orgasms."

Nah for that to happen to the DUmmies...Ashcroft would have to have died or something.

Ashcroft probably uttered the word that some kind of border security was needed, and he got axed.
