How heartbreaking this must be for his father.While I'm not 100% certain, I believe the astronaut died some years ago.

Just checked "Dead or Alive": Scott Carpenter, John Glenn, and Wally Schirra are the three remaining Mercury astronauts.

Not true. Still alive at this time. This might kill him, though. I met Schirra when I was a college student. I recognized him, which seemed to surprise him. He was most gracious.
