"I can't fathom how an intelligent person can think this is good for their country." Ultimately this betrays the opposition's mindset - and it isn't flattering. They freelty admit that they don't have the range and clarity of thinking to even consider that someone disagree with them.
No good comes from this kind of self-reflexive, self absorbed, and needlessly limiting thinking. Indeed, when they say things like this, it really demonstrates their lack of thinking ability, rather than anyone else's.
