BECKLEY, W.Va. A West Virginia school board is backing a decision to ban an honor student from wearing a skirt with the words "It's all about Juicy" printed on the backside.
The principal of the high school had told the girl the slogan was sexually suggestive and forbidden under school policy.
However the sophomore protested, saying the words referred to the clothing manufacturer, Juicy Couture.
Nichoel Hawks says the school has a double standard. During her appeal she showed pictures of male students wearing shirts featuring Hooters, "Big Kahunas" and "Big Johnson."
Young lawyers-in-training ...
What the heck are this kid's parents thinking?!
It sounds as though they could use some attention to their dress code generally.
Good for the goose is, well you know....
seems like life would be simpler if everyone had to wear school uniforms. (Gad that makes me sound old)
Last summer at a gas station, I saw a woman my age (late 30's) driving an SUV worth nearly as much as my house, wearing shorts that said PINCH HEINEY on the rear. Some people's brains are in their tuchus.
I like the concept of school uniforms.
Juicy what, farts????
LOL. I'll be thinking of this skirt when I see that commercial on TV about "it's all about the big O". (overstocked ...)
That girl on that ad seems to be talking about another "O".
An adult has no-one to blame but herself. But as far as this kid goes, there's a reason God gave us parents.
That's an understatement!
I saw a girl who couldn't have been over 17 wearing a tee shirt with the words "Feel Them" printed across her ample breasts.
The father of any young female who would wear such a garment is either (1) absent or (2) worthless.
If this is true, the girl has a valid point. This is a sterling example why school uniforms are really a good thing.
School uniforms are a beautiful thing. Unfortunately, it is just not possible in Public Schools. The political process in school boards is just incapable of promulgating an across-the-board policy. They will always make exemptions for people who can't afford it (actually, uniforms save a lot of money) or who have some philosophical objection. Once their are exemptions, there is no uniform policy.
I have seen it happen time and time again.
And of course, one would probably have gone directly to jail if one had taken her up on her "offer".
Like I've got room to talk. My favorite old around-the-house T-shirt reads "Kill 'Em All - Let G*d Sort Them Out", and I haven't killed anybody in years :)
When I went to college at Virginia Tech, the town of Beckley was notorious for quick and cheap recreation for horny cadets.
Uniforms sure were easier and cheaper. I went to a Private High School on a scholarship. It was filled with VERY WEALTHY young women. The uniforms sure helped to balance the wealth. On the annual dress-up day, I was always devastated. These kids were wearing Leslie Fay!! I was wearing Lerners...similar to Kmart!!
Our school district targeted only the 6th graders wearing uniforms this year - they're not even "cute" as far as uniforms can be cute - very dull and bland. But it sure beats what I see the high school kids wearing. Parents have voted down uniforms in surveys year after year but they haven't grabbed the concept of how much easier it would be on them pocketbook wise and it takes the pressure off the kids whether they will admit it or not.
