Shahab-3 capable of hitting Israel, U.S. bases in Persian Gulf Iran said on Tuesday it was now able to manufacture large quantities of its medium-range Shahab-3 ballistic missile, which defense experts say is capable of hitting Israel or U.S. bases in the Persian Gulf. "We have the capability to mass-produce Shahab-3 missiles," Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani told reporters. His comments, reported on several local news agencies, were confirmed by the Defense Ministry. Iran first deployed the Shahab-3 to its Revolutionary Guards in 2003. Officials have repeatedly said in recent months they could use Shahab-3 to strike back at Israel should it try to attack its nuclear facilities. Israel and the United States accuse Iran of developing nuclear warheads to deliver with the Shahab-3 but Iran says its atomic facilities are geared solely to generating electricity. Iran recently announced it had improved Shahab-3's accuracy and increased its range to 1,250 miles. That potentially brought parts of southern Europe within Irans reach but Shamkhani said the increased range was merely so that Iran could launch the missile from anywhere within its own borders.

I'm surprised Israel hasn't been *greenlighted* to take all of Iran's factories and nuclear reactor(s) out. Very, very surprised it hasn't already been done.
This is just BEGGING for an Isreali intervention.
Can we just bomb them now???
PING...............
Meyer to Iran: Missile production facilities can be eliminated.
Stop them now...soon it will be too late.
As soon as Bush won, ( Yay ! ) Iran immeadiately agreed to "discuss" a moratorium on uranium enrichment and promises to refrain from developing nuclear military weapons.
Now, they are making threats, (again) directed towards Israel..
They think their negotiating strategy will "protect" them with a shield of "international opinion" against pre-emptive action by Israel..
Man, they are really pushing it...
Time to take out their nuke and missile capacity this first year.
See if that causes an uprising that leads to their fall from internal forces.
If not, put a blockade (not embargo) on imports and exports of any military/high tech equipment. Put a moratorium on any Iranians training in any high tech fields in American Universities.
Put together a fool proof attack plan for a ground campaign.
I pointed out that, during the campaign, Dems frequently said Iraq was the wrong war and that North Korea and Iran made a lot more sense as terrorist hotspots. So, I said, if Bush were to attack North Korea or Iran, the Dems would now support that, right?
The Lib said, "Errrrrrr...."
how long will the West keep dithering on the control of these fanatics and their weapons?!
But the Iranian buildup is worriesome...shades of The Dragon's Fury Series
The Yugo was mass-produced but it wasn't any good.
We all know how well blockades worked from Iraq--both during the run-up to Gulf War II, and now.
A couple nukes (by us, on them) would settle it quite well...at the cost of other problems.
The US remains the only power to have nuked civilians.
And Japan now supplies many of our automobiles.
Off-topic: Speaking of Japan, what is the take of Japanese automakers(Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi) on expansion into China or competition from China, based on Cheap Wages and Intellectual Property Theft?
I could have sworn this said Shelob-3.
Quick, where's Samwise Gamgee?

The proposed Massive Ordnance Penetrator, or MOP, would weigh 30,000 pounds, nearly 40 percent more than the 21,000 pound MOAB -- officially Massive Ordnance Air Blast -- that never saw combat.
"The reason it's heavier than MOAB is that it has to penetrate a target," said Fred Davis, technical director for assessment and demonstrations at the Air Force Research Laboratory's Munitions Directorate.
MOP would be designed to explode deep in the ground or inside a structure to destroy tunnels and bunkers or topple tall buildings.
MOAB, on the other hand, explodes just above the ground. It is a larger version of the BLU-84 "Daisy Cutter" that was used during the Vietnam War to blast out helicopter landing zones in jungle areas.
The 15,000-pound Daisy Cutter also was dropped during the 1991 Persian Gulf War to clear minefields and more recently to blast caves believed to be hiding terrorists in Afghanistan.
MOAB can be against similar targets and structures or vehicles susceptible to surface blast damage. Both also are seen as psychological weapons that can demoralize an enemy.
During the next 16 months the Munitions Directorate at this Florida Panhandle base will look at everything from MOP's shape to its guidance. The Pentagon's Defense Threat Reduction Agency is providing $500,000 in initial research money.
If the project gets beyond the initial research and development phase, MOP probably won't see its first armed drop until 2006 or later.
MOP would have inertial and satellite guidance, just like MOAB, but it would have a more slender shape so it could be dropped from high altitude by a B-52 or a B-2 stealth bomber.
The Daisy Cutter and MOAB are too bulky to be carried by sleek bombers and must be pushed out of the rear door of lower-flying and slower cargo planes.

(Not) Dear Mullahs,
I have noticed about your claims of hitting Israel with Shihab-3 missiles. Pleace note that Israel has the most advanced and largest air defence system in teh world, and Israel is the only country that is full covered with anti missile systems. Therefore your Shihabs-3 will be blwon to hell, and eaven if some do reach Israel, dont forget that IDF developed the Jericho-2 and possible Jericho-3 missiles with the range of 4000-6000km, and with MUCH MUCH better accuracy than the Shihab-3.
We got better! We got better! nah nah nah nah! lol
With great laugh, IAF Thunder Pilot.
Now being sirious, Iran doesnt have the capabilities to harm Israel badly, neither the capabilities to harm the US forces in the Gulf, Iraq, and Afganisthan.
The Mullahs bark loudly, but the cannot bite.
I'm not auto industry knowledgeable....didn't Mitsubishi just sell it's soul to some American/European car manufacturer?
And Honda is pretty much US-focused for profit.
Lots of Toyotas in Europe & Mid-east. I know nothing about Nissan.
There you have it. :)
(And it ain't much.)
