This map is large enough to see each county clearly, and has the shape of the States outlined in white.

I do not like that ugly blue line snaking up the Mississippi River. Must be university towns.

Probably concentration of African Americans, like that band running East-West from western GA, through AL to MS. A Southerner would know better than I.

This map shows Oakland County, Michigan as a red county. I believe it tipped over to blue late on Wednesday morning (unless it's since gone back to red).

...and Utah. Note the one blue county in Idaho...not sure which county that is, but it looks to be in the area of Sun Valley; one of John F'in Kerry's favorite ski resorts.

A note. Mono county in California ended up being a tie 2,200 to 2,200 and therefore is a white county, neither red nor blue.

That's disapointing because last time it was red, but many maps, this one inlcuded are based on earlier counts when kerry had a lead.

If you take away the top 5 rat counties, by how much does Bush win? I assume the counties would have NY, Chicago, Seatle, Atlanta and L.A., maybe Cleveland.

I posted these comments elsewhere, but probably should have posted them here...

It occurs to me when looking at some of the figures, particularly the ones in the NYT this weekend, that the dems are holding only 30-43% of the white American vote in the last 30 years. 30 something % Mondale, 43% Clintoon. Since 80% of the population is white, this is a losing proposition. Further, if you examine the county by county map posted several places within FR, the "population centers" the dems claim are so "sophisticated" that they went democrat are also the "population centers" that harbor the most minorities. Listening to the dems agenda, anyone can see that they were so desperate they played to any fringe political group's agenda alienating further the white moderate urban vote. A HUGH change will have to occur within the dem party in order for them to turn this around. "You're going to have to give those taxes back" Hitlery Clintoon is NOT going to be an answer. However, I'd be joyful to see her on the ballot in '08. We can just copy and paste the same map.

No, those are very high-minority (Black) Mississippi River Delta areas that also include a large number of the old "yellow dog" Democrats.

The map is excellent!

The reservations are the only blue spots in SD.

I note that the counties in NH bordering MA and red.....must be pissed about the MA folk jumping the border, screwing things up.

Someone should save it and keep it on their server, to avoid the dreaded "red X" phemomenon, if the guy's bandwidth is exceeded on the Squabble site.

DONE!

Take away Chicago and Illinois would have gone for Bush. Take away Phlly and Pennsylvania goes to Bush. New York comes close to being for Bush without NYC, but not quite.

My guess that those are black and/or poor counties dependent on government handouts.

You are correct. The blue areas are won by the President, the red ones by Kerry.

Well, NYC is divided into at least 5 counties (same as the boroughs), one of which (Staten Island) went for Bush. Long Island is 2 counties, which alone contain 3 million people. So 11 million of NY's 19 million people live in just NYC & LI. But I get your point.

Thanks, BullDog, for making another source available. It's a pretty cool map, and we need to keep it alive.

Maybe some Freeper with graphics ability could use it as the basis for a more detailed map (pointing out key areas, or correcting possible errors or developments).

You are indeed correct about the east-west line through Alabama. That is what is known in state politics as "the black belt" and I don't think it derives from any racial connotation. An Alabama native would know for sure but I think it has to do with soil deposits.

Yes, that 3-D population map is nice. I just wish it was on the same scale as the one atop this thread.
