RE the new Iraqi troops, and their supposed failures to daye...any officer know that a unit has to be "bloodied"...it's one of the sad but necessary thruths of combat. NO matter how wekll trained, how well equipped, and how well led..until the firs shots are fired, the first men hit..you never know..also..the Iraqi NonComs haven't been tested yet...

Who takes these pictures? I hope it's not a western journalist. They just stand by and take pictures of men trying to kill our soldiers.

I wouldn't be too worried about this mortar attack. It can't be very accurate with the old MK1mod0 Hadji T&E (the dumba$$ holding the tube instead of a real aiming mechanism) to direct fire downrange. There's also the machinegunner standing there shooting from the hip with his "A" gunner holding the ammo belt at an angle that will probably jam the gun.

These idiots won't last long. Our Marines will ground them, and fast.

I seem to recall a post that reporters were afraid to be embedded on our side. Guess if you are on their side you can be assured of safety.

Yoo don't fire a mortar by holding the firing tube. #1, the shots can't possibly land anywhere near their intended target. #2, after the first couple of rounds, your fingers will be seared, yes seared, to the weapon.

But this bad boy will ruin your day,
Oh how I hope mr. Peace sign was standing
behind it when they lit it off.

Why are the Syrian's building sand barriers? Sadaam did that when he thought the US was going to invade. Are they a little worried now that the President will be around for another four years?

That photo is clearly staged. The mortar has no aiming mechanism.

No sh*t there's no aiming mechanism. That's a 60mm mortar being fired *not* from the standard baseplate with aiming device, but from the "commando" baseplate. The technique the mortar gunner is using is called a "hipshoot," in which one just kinda points the mortar in the target's general direction. The 60mm mortars don't have much range anyway, so it's reasonably accurate.

The photo's not staged.

It sure is a good thing they don't know how to properly aim a mortar. Just kinda holding it in place isn't going to get much accuracy, thank goodness.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! :^D

Good job, Dio! As always.

George Patton Speech

I want you to remember that no bas*ard ever won the war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor, dumb bas*ard die for his country. Men, all this stuff you’ve heard about America not wanting to fight – wanting to stay out of the war - is a lot of horse dung! Americans traditionally love to fight! All REAL Americans love the sting of battle …..

And HERE is the full statement.

Not unusual, he's a Marine. Were he to run out of ammo
he'd beat the enemy to death with his crutches. Semper Fi ...
