They talk of his campaign commercials as being very helpful as they should be. I was in LA some during the latter part of the race and heard some of them. Especially the ones talking about his twin girls and their struggle for life. The first time I heard them I wasn't sure if it was a democrat or republican until his name was mentioned. He talked about fighting for health care and splitting with the Party on issues when needed.
We Louisianans finally did it and exorcised the hold the Democrats have held on our senate seats since Reconstruction. Had Bobby Jindal looked more like David Vitter, Republicans would now be occupying the governor's mansion as well.
But let me not get too greedy. I'm satisfied with a new conservative senator, Jindal's revenge by taking the open House seat with a 78% majority and the coming victory of Billy Tauzin III. YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
God Bless the people of Louisiana.
Vitter is the guy who finally defeated David Duke and ran hom into oblivion. I hope he talks about that when he gets into the Senate. The Republicans have gotten rid of their crazies, while the Democrats put theirs front and center at their convention.
Vitter didn't run against David Duke. Duke left his LA House of Reps seat to run for Governor. Vitter won that open seat to start him on his political career.
Duke was one of the candidates in 1998 for the House seat Vitter won. He finished 3rd. Vitter came from behind to defeat Duke and a former Republican governor.
Vitter had already been in the Louisiana legislature for over 7 years by the time that 1998 election was held. Duke had already been marginalized and discraced by then. The Louisiana House district Duke held is very, very different from the U.S. House district that Vitter and now Jindal will represent.
