WE WON'T BE DUPED LIKE DUBYA'S DOPES
Mirror.CO.UK ^ | November 5, 2004 | Paul Routledge

The most important US presidential election for decades was brought down to that naive level by a cunning, cynical George Dubya Bush. And it worked. This corrupt exercise in mass deception cost a billion dollars in TV advertising and twice that in campaign expenses (some of them genuine). But it was worth it for the big business interests that dominate American politics. Bush is back, sponsored by good 'ole US oil. If that is democracy, then I am the Count of Monte Cristo. If only bamboozled Yankees were involved, we could all go about our business without a care.

As indeed most will do anyway. Who gives a flying bonk what they think in Des Moines? And vice versa, I'm sure.

But there are perils galore in the re-election of Bush, not least the prospect of Britain being dragged into a third war many thousands of miles from home, in Iran.

Naturally, Tony Blair pooh-poohs any such prospect. As he did before the assault on Afghanistan. And before the invasion of Iraq. We are now bogged down in both countries.

This is, to use Hollywood jargon, a clear and present danger. But a more insidious and even more lethal menace lurks behind the victory of Ole Cross-Eyes. The Republicans mobilised as never before the politics of fear. They convinced a majority of US citizens that their homes and families were under immediate threat from al-Qaeda. They are not.

In fact, the BBC's admirable Power Of Nightmares series showed al-Qaeda does not exist as the world-wide conspiracy presented by US policy-makers, with commanders, cells and "sleepers" in 60 countries.

In that sense, al-Qaeda is a figment of the imagination of Pentagon and CIA war gamers - but it is a mightily useful weapon for war.

Ken Bigley's beheading was a figment of our imaginations.

Dontcha just wish we could all be like them, so sophisticated, so enlightened, so socialized, so world weary, so skinny, so stringy haired, so pasty faced, so averse to soap, so infested with Mohammadens?

a cunning, cynical George Dubya Bush.

So he suddenly got smart? Four years as the biggest dope on the planet and now he's suddenly cunning?

I don't think Osama bin Laden has received the memo notifying him that his organization is a figment of our imaginations.

This is, to use Hollywood jargon, a clear and present danger

Dear Paul: The clear and present danger for America was averted/defeated by not electing a Benedict Arnold.

This man Kerry your choice has been and was an antiwar appeaser much the same as your choice Neville Chamberlain was.

Our media along with your media never asked him a question that would not go along with your preconceived notion on how the world will work. As long as you can negotiate with them they won't kill you.

As we say in America W stands for Wrong!

"Who gives a flying bonk what they think in Des Moines?"

You know, quite frankly I did expect some bitterness from the losers. But honestly, I never, ever expected the barrage of evil coming out of not only Brit media, but so many U.S. citizens as well. I never thought much about the "two Americas" theme, but I'm starting to think there really is a serious division that's much more vast than I would have ever imagined.

Someone might take the time sometime to introduce this A-Hole to the writings of some Supreme Court justices. Does he really think a Hollywood wordsmith made up that phrase? Sheesh.

I see that snobbery isn't limited to leftists in the United States.

I remember Britain whining and sniveling, dragging us into WW2 to save their sorry rear after Chamberlain was kissed by Hitler. Brits are a sorry lot.

Well. If the BBC says al-Q doesn't exist... I guess it doesn't exist. Unless, of course, the BBC is wrong.

Do you think the BBC could be wrong about something?

Nah. I guess not.

So we're all safe after all. What a relief.

I pray they don't call on old "cross eyed" or the stupid people under his control to help them when one of those figments targets their Buckingham Palace. I wonder if any of the "great ones" with their superior intellect have actually ever talked to a red state American to find out what we are really like. Oh forgot, we are subhuman.
I am really honest to God sick of all these whiny, needle nose, liberal pimps.
