Face The Nation | Jus'now | Specter

Posted on 11/07/2004 7:42:21 AM PST by VaBthang4

Specter was asked twice if the President had a mandate. Specter hemmed and hawed with the first answer...then when pressed said the President does not have a mandate.

THIS GUY HAS GOT TO GO!!!!

I thought we were the Republican party. I voted for Toomey. When my candidate lost, I went with what the majority in my party decided. I didn't stamp my feet and threaten to hold my breath because I didn't get my way.

MY principles dictated that I not put a filthy POS socialist/marxist crat like Hoefle into power.

If the GOP lets spRectum's ascent to the Judiciary Chair to go unabated, they are literally throwing the midterm elections away, possibly the 2008 POTUS election away and defying the greatest opportunity for generational national governance to continue healing and strengthening America. Yes, spRectum, you are going into the grinder, finally. Take you Scottish Law, your lack of gratefullness and your own mandate, spRectum, and forget the Chair of the Judiciary Committee.

I agree. I think we need to trust GWB. Bush and Frist know how we feel because they had that conference call ASAP.

I hope that we do not undermine GWB's position if we go too far. If Specter ends up getting the chairmanship, he could be more vindictive towards conservative judges in this case. What we have worked for could disappear very quickly.

GWB won't do something he knows would not help his position.

"I must respectfully disagree. Regardless of what else President Bush does this term, his legacy will largely be defined by the Supreme Court justices he gets appointed to the bence. If someone like Spector causes us to get stuck with two more Souters then the entire 8 years of his reign will be forever tarnished. He just can't take the risk."

I think GWB is well aware of this . I trust GWB. If he wants him as chair, than he probably has something over him and thinks if he has a moderate push through conserrvative judges, it will help him. GWB will do what he thinks is best to get what he needs to do, done.

What I believe this horrific so called republican (hardly) senator is doing is getting his face out before the public, trying to assure his next reelection by giving the LEFTIST MEDIA SOUNDBITES due to the fact that he hails from a state that went for BUSH.

He is so selfish, so cowardly (not voting to impeach that intern porking, committer of perjury, bill klinton), so INTERESTED in saving his own JOB that he is willing to trash our President and our party and diminish the FABOULOUS MANDATE OUR PRESIDENT RECEIVED in order to protect his own turf.

He makes me sick.

He is so different in stature from President Bush and his team and the genuinely strong men and women in congress who hold to the ideals/ values of our republican party.

I am so angry at this blubbering, evasive, hurtful, selfish, weak, publicity seeking creep I couls spit.

Shame on this man.

Wish I could tell him so to his face.

I hope someone gives this boob one solid spanking. I am SICK OF ARLEN and JOHN McCain giving the media soundbites in order to play to their favor in return for the press exposure.

Arlen is not a REAL MAN WHO STANDS SOLID WITH THE BELIEFS OF HIS PARTY.

Arlen is a weak man who PLAYS to both sides to keep his job.....and since his state did not go for Bush...he wants to make sure those Kerry voters LIKE HIM.

Poo on Arlen. He joins the weak and the selfish and SHOULD DECLARE HIMSelf a DEMOCRAT and get it over with....we do NOT WANT HIM ON THE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE. He is an underminer of our values...NOT a voice for our values.

Arlen has done this before and he will do it again...he is weak...and puts himself above all else.

This man would NEVER sacrifice anything to uphold the values we hold dear.

Enjoy the kisses from the press corp who love your soundbites Arlen....they are as lacking in genuine meaning as your so called membership in the repbulican party is.

I am so proud of myself, I didn't pull the lever for this bum.

Now you know how we Tennesseans felt after our state helped deny AlGore in '00 election.

Real good!!!

Kerry---- 2,883,833-51%
Hoeffel---2,295,305-42%

Bush-----2,756,361-49%
Specter--2,890,818-53%
Clymer-----216,930-4%

Note the following:

1. Hoeffel received almost 600,000 fewer votes than Kerry. Does he suddenly receive these votes if he runs against Toomey as opposed to Specter?

2. Assume Specter votes less Bush votes are Demo crossover voters for Specter (134K) that would've gone for Hoeffel, but also assume Clymer voters (216K) go for Toomey. The result is a modest Toomey win.

IMHO, the numbers show Toomey would've had an advantage in the race.

Hoeffel received only 42% of the vote in PA.

Could it be that a lot of moderate dems crossed party lines? Could it be because Hoeffle didn't have a lot of money to campaign with? Could it be that the crat party figured that Spector was unbeatable and didn't mount a real push?

As far as Santorum goes I don't think he'll be able to be re-elected. There is a big block of left wing dems out east, a large group of embittered conservatives in the center of the state that are being urged to hold back their support of Rick because he supported Spector.

You don't understand Arlen spRectum very well...he believes he now has his own 6 year mandate and political capital to spend in both directions, RAT & GOP...Bush can't touch him. Only the GOP Senate can...

I never suggested otherwise. My point was that the GOP lost a golden opportunity to rid itself of Specter during the primary, and that they will regret that missed chance.

Exactly!! We voted in a President and we need to trust him to take care of this situation. How do we know how he wants to handle this situation and for us to jump the gun and start doing petitions is acting like the dims.
Thats their thing, petitions.
Settle down and let the GOP deal with it as THEY see fit.

Right! And there is no way some little putz like Specter is going to foil or even disrupt W's agenda. W will figure-out a way to win either with or in spite of Specter!

Supporting spRectum was a calculated risk...calculating the risk of spRectum chairing the Senate Judiciary Committee is flat-out stupidity. 100%. spRectum is NOT trustworthy - spRectum is ALL about himself and his power...

See my #172.

As for Santorum in 2006, I think he wins again. If the Demos couldn't beat him with a Presidential election at the top of their ticket (2000), there's no way they get him in an off year. Witness FL 2002: the GOP turned out enough Jeb Bush voters to get within 100K of their 2002 total, while the Demo turnout fell by 800K. And that was a state the Dems targeted for revenge.

Should be "to get within their 2000 total".
