I think y'all are overlooking a great candidate in the Gov of KY., Ernie Fletcher. Great creds, Fighter pilot w/ combat missions/Dr./Preacher/Family man/southerner from the heartland/first Rep Gov in 40 years/good looking/good hair lol. Already has a track record of making tough unpopular decisions.

Another post reported that Santorum was a liberal. I simply answered that (supposed the he was a liberal) a tichet with Giuliani would be awful and anti-christian. Anyway, if not, I'm sorry with you and Santorum. Bye.

You got that right. The Clintons are seasoned politicians and its going to take a really strong well known name to beat her. Jeb Bush is our best bet.

I agree with you. I don't ever want a female president and I'm a woman. Genuinely conservative Gop women at the elected level are extremely hard to find. Most of them are of the moderate variety and are incredibly dissappointing. I can think of only one GOP woman I identify with.

I heard NewsMax magazine summing up GWB's help in this campaign and they said Arnold was a dissapointment. He deliberately distanced himself from the President except a lukewarm appearance in Ohio the last week. A few pros and cons. Pros: Star power. Charismatic. Could probably carry Cahleefonya. Cons: Too liberal. He tries to passify his very liberal wife. Would we want a Kennedy as a first lady in a Republican WH? Also changing the constitution would open the door for the left to run such people as Soros. A nightmare! They would find a Communist to run for prez. NewsMax said when the issue comes up be very careful. They say Arnold isn't worth the risk.

Thats the type we need. We are already on a roll with moral values. We don't want to abandon it, now. Whoever fits the bill needs lots of exposure in the next four years. Needs to become a household word.

"Chuck Hagel"

- is a back stabber; remember his comments a couple weeks before the election?

Welcome to FreeRepublic Becky! Southern Democrats are much more conservative. I hadn't heard all that about Bredesen but I didn't like Sundquist for sure. TN seems to be one of the most liberal of the Southern states after you factor in Memphis but fortunately most of the state seems to be rural and conservative.

Before I replied I took a look at your profile. I'm in the Athens TN area and work in Cleveland. Cleveland (Bradley County) turned out almost 80% for Bush. This area is very Republican. It was wonderful this election. Everywhere you looked there were Bush signs. The few Kerry supporters in my area were too ashamed to put signs out. :-)

With all due respect, the only other 'negative' remark I saw about Santorum in this thread was that he's too young (sarasotarepublican). Senator Santorum will be 50 in 2008 -- which isn't too young, imho.

The only post I saw in the thread calling him a liberal (not to mention friend of the AFL-CIO) was yours. Whose did I overlook?

One more thing... scroll down to the part with the heading "Rated 0% by the AFL-CIO, indicating an anti-labor voting record" at the following site. I didn't realize the AFL-CIO supported candidates who rate a 0 with them. Why do you believe that "...Santorum is the only Republican friend of AFL-CIO, in Senate"?

J.C. Watts? Young, Black, out of the fray for a few years. I don't remember if he is truly conservative, though. Too lazy to look up his record right this minute.

On the NY Senator issue, didn't Bill O'Reilly express interest in running against HRC in '06?

McCain could move to the right. His does have Republican credentials on all the social issues.
Too early to know.

Mitt Romney (might have edge on George Allen)

"The candidate reiterated his support for an assault weapons ban contained in Congress' crime bill, and the Brady law which imposes a five-day waiting period on handgun purchases. `I don't think (the waiting period) will have a massive effect on crime but I think it will have a positive effect,' Romney said." I agree. Tancredo or McClintock. To those who keep harping on "electablity", I remind them that that's a completely self-fulfilling prophecy. At this early stage we should focus first on finding someone we think truly would make the best president. Once we've done that, then we have four years to convince everyone else that he's the best candidate for the job. We have an opportunity here. We can afford to think big.
