Many Democrats said the experience of the first term -- in which they perceive that Bush promised cooperation but governed in a highly partisan fashion -- has left them reluctant to cooperate with Bush unless he takes the first step by moderating his course on such issues as Social Security, judicial appointments and limiting lawsuits. "They make a profound mistake if they think we're demoralized," said Sen. Byron L. Dorgan (N.D.), a moderate Democrat whose reaction echoed the unyielding tone that generally prevailed among Democrats of all ideological stripes yesterday. "We're not going to roll over and play dead. . . . We had a setback, but we're as determined as ever to push our own agenda."

Hey, Dorgan, you just keep talking like that and you'll find yourself home in '06 just like your buddy in South Dakota, ol' Tommy! Your name is on the hit list and I'm tired of this "reaching across the aisle crap" whenever Republicans win - Democrats only reach across the aisle to kick us!

they perceive that Bush promised cooperation but governed in a highly partisan fashion Yikes ... look, Deomcraps, bi-partisanship requires that BOTH sides make compromises. Bush was willing to meet you half way during the first part of his first term. YOU, on the other hand, took what you could steal from him and then called him a liar. So ... stuff your whining. You guys lost. Deal with it.

We give the orders, you carry them out. Its amazing how these people still believe they're the top dogs and that they run Washington like it was back in Tip O'Neill's day.

We don't care if you are demoralized. It is simple, we have the power and you don't. If you behave politely and show a willingness to pay court and to compromise, then we will listen. If you behave like arrogant jerks and stick fingers in our eye, then you will get precisely nothing and the most right agenda possible will be shoved down your throats. "Oh but we will just filibuster". So we will change the cloture rule. Go batty, and we go nuclear, and you lose. Watch your freaking step.

Bush stated:In the election of 2004, large issues were set before our country. They were discussed every day on the campaign. With the campaign over, Americans are expecting a bipartisan effort and results. I'll reach out to everyone who shares our goals. And I'm eager to start the work ahead. I'm looking forward to serving this country for four more years.
