NATIONAL RIGHT TO CARRY
11/06/04 | xsrdx

Posted on 11/06/2004 5:47:16 AM PST by xsrdx

With a pro-gun House, arguably slightly pro gun Senate, and an emphatically elected, pro-gun President in place with no concerns over another term - now is the time to make the case for nationwide concealed carry.

Simple language that mandates any state that issues a permit for CCW, must recognize any other states lawfully issued CCW permit. QED, on the heels of similar, recently passed legislation establishing the right of law enforcement officers to carry weapons concealed in all 50 states.

Post your ideas, comments, links and articles on how to get it accomplished here....

I have thought that this is an excellent idea for some time. For those who say that this should be a state issue, I would point out that it is merely enabling the terms of the Second Amendment.

I'd say that it's about time. I would definitely support that idea. The only hang up would be that some states require a safety course, while others do not. In my opinion, all states should require a safety course, before being issued a carry permit.

A national concealed carry law and a mandated policy of $50 off all airfares for citizens with that license to pack heat on airplanes, and get rid of the unnecessary and ineffective expense of "air marshalls". Anybody starting to do any sort of a terrorist thing on an airplane should immediately go down in a thunderous hail of lead.

If I had a zillion dollars just lying around, I'd be happy to make a test case of this now. The 'full faith and credit' clause of the Constitution applies to concealed weapons permits just as fully as it applies to driver's licenses and (gasp!) marriage licenses. We don't need more legislation on this one, because it would imply that we truly need that legislation. All we really need is a test case by someone with enough money to run it through the court system.

Any volunteers?

I'd like to sit in the "No Shooting" section, please. Opening fire on an airplane is a really bad idea. Didn't you ever see Goldfinger?

NATIONAL RIGHT TO CARRY

Do you realize how frightening that phrase can be to someone who merely hears it ... and doesn't see the spelling??? E.g.:

NATIONAL RIGHT TO KERRY ... YIKES !!!

I don't own a gun. I don't want a gun - but that's my preference. For those who own guns and want to carry, this is an idea whose time has come - again. I say "again," because the 2nd Amendment (...shall not be infringed) marked the first time the idea had come.

Write/call your Senators and Congressmen. Organize via gun clubs on a state level - each state should elect a spokesman to network with spokesmen elected from other states. Lobby as a unified force,...perhaps bring in Larry Pratt's GOA and the NRA. If Concealed Carry is going to become a reality, the time has never been more ripe to make it happen.

You'll have libs rolling all over. Need to use ammunition on more important things right now, then maybe consider something like that later. Besides, I think it belongs to the states.

no chance ... forget it ... you won't get even close to the votes needed in any of the three houses, including the WH ... and will waste political capital in doing so.

BAD IDEA - period (even if I agree with the desired goal)

Eligible people should have the right to carry a concealed weapon. You're right now is the time to make that happen.

Just curious, but what is the argument against this?

CCW nationally for TRAINED LAW ENFORCEMENT took 10 years. I do not want National Rules for carry to any one. Why? States rights; with its foot in the door, the Federal Government can take away with a single election - usually the people change the party in power after about 2 years; let each state recognize the other state's CCW and we are home.

That the common folk are morally incompetent and will slaughter each other if given a chance. Although the Libs don't put it in quite those words.

Best argument against such foolishness in years! We already have National Right to Carry! They are called the 2nd Amendment and Article IV of the Constitution!

1) The Second Amendment makes it a federal issue, so the Tenth does not kick in.

2) Right now a lot of the more pragmatic libs are saying that gun control is a loser issue for the Dems and they need to ditch it. The RKBA is so important that I for one don't particularly care who our allies are.

That might work in 50 years, but there are still too many left wing kooks in the courts to make it a sure thing.

This could be an excellent "wedge" issue for the 2008 campaign.

"...an emphatically elected, pro-gun President in place with no concerns over another term..."

Ummmm...the "Pro-gun" remains to be seen. Remember that he did pledge to sign the AWB if it made it to his desk. For me, the only certainty of political content is in action - not rhetoric or campaign promises.

I agree with another poster that this would be a waste, at this time, of political effort and time. Fill the benches and secure the conservative changes in government for a generation or more then go after the plums on the shopping list.

At the risk of redundancy, let me say, again, that the best way to secure 2A rights now, and well into the future, is to appoint solid constitutional judges...the best way to secure 2A rights now, and well into the future, is to appoint solid constitutional judges...the best way to secure 2A rights now, and well into the future, is to appoint solid constitutional judges...the best way to secure 2A rights now, and well into the future, is to appoint solid constitutional judges...the best way to secure 2A rights now, and well into the future, is to appoint solid constitutional judges...the best way to secure 2A rights now, and well into the future, is to appoint solid constitutional judges...the best way to secure 2A rights now, and well into the future, is to appoint solid constitutional judges...the best way to secure 2A rights now, and well into the future, is to appoint solid constitutional judges...the best way to secure 2A rights now, and well into the future, is to appoint solid constitutional judges...
