Political mayhem results in 4 arrests
Election results bring out the fight in some political partisans
The 2004 election has come to a close, but political tensions remain high as four area individuals were arrested Wednesday night and early Thursday morning on charges stemming from disputes involving rival political groups.
The Athens Police Department responded to four disputes involving rival political groups. Police said a group of students celebrating President Bush's re-election was confronted by a group of people who were unhappy with the election results.
According to the department, the first incident occurred at 10 p.m. Wednesday and resulted in the arrest of 31 year-old Greggory Wells, who was allegedly throwing eggs from the balcony of 9 W. State St. at the celebrating students. Police said Wells hit two people in the head and was charged with three counts of assault.
Wells appeared in Athens County Municipal Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to the charges. Judge William Grim ordered Wells to pay a $100 fime for each of the three charges. Wells also was given a 30 day suspended sentence, placed on two years of probation and ordered to complete 12 hours of community service.
The second incident occurred at about 10:20 p.m. when a man, later identified as William Price, jumped out of a van on Congress Street and allegedly exposed himself to Bush supporters, police said. Price was arrested and charged with indecent exposure. He has not yet appeared in municipal court.
At about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Athens police received another complaint of a dispute between two groups. The complaint alleged that a woman was kicking and hitting several Bush supporters in front of O'betty's on W. State St. Fiona Mitchell, 22, was arrested on one count of assaulting another woman.
Mitchell appeared in municipal court Thursday and pleaded innocent to the charge. She was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court again on Nov. 22 at 8 a.m.
The final incident occurred while officers were responding to the incident at O'betty's. According to police, 38-year-old Christopher M. Biester was allegedly threatening and instigating a fight with another man on West State Street. Biester was arrested for disorderly conduct by intoxication and resisting arrest.
Biester appeared in municipal court Thursday and pleaded innocent to the charges. He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to be in court again on Nov. 18 at 8 a.m.

When asked if he had ever seen behavior like this related to an election Lt. Dave Williams said, "No, not in my years here."
Williams said he thinks this year's election was a very emotional contest and equated it to a big ball game. he said the department received no complaints of disputes between political rivals on election night or other nights leading up to Tuesday's vote. source here, but only an exerpt
Unless you lose an election.
In that case, attack.
Keep it up, you fools are really showing exactly what the democratic party is today!
The libs are a bit snippy.
And that was BEFORE the election results came in.
And then there was the incident where a rat tried to run over some Bush supporters, one of them Katherine Harris, claiming they annoyed him by blocking traffic. (If they were blocking traffic how come he had to swerve over to the side to get to them?)
The 'Real Deal' - Life size cutout of John Kerry -- Attachments optional...
I'm guessing he wasn't throwing him breakfast. Democrat whiners!
Except spoiled children don't usually hurt anyone seriously. I suspect this is all going to get much worse, before it gets better!
Athens, Ohio, is the home of Ohio University, my alma mater (sigh). Lots of clueless libs reside there. Brings back memories....
I think I'm going to extend my Victory Gloatfest for another day or two. I wonder how many of these dissapointed Dems were even registered to vote.
What a bunch of losers. My friends and I in the College Republicans had a victory party too. If any of these lefties tried to spoil our fun, there would be serious hell to pay.
The girls alone could take them out. If us guys moved in, they'd be done for.
Mine, too.
Me three. Go Bobcats! Did someone say party?
Just curious- my late and very dear to me Uncle, Tom Bowen, taught there for years- did either of you ever run into him?
Different flavors of assault charges?
I heard Jeanine Geroffalo on the radio tonight. She asked "why has everyone taken their Bush/Cheney stickers off their cars? Are they ashamed? There are lots of cars with Kerry sticker still on."
That is because Kerry voters need not fear Bush voters.
Partisans? Sounds like Democrat MO to me.
I had a lib friend of many years hang up the phone on me while discussing the election results the other night, and he's yet to return to return a few followup calls.
They are angry.
Oh, yeah. These are the guys you'd most want in control of the fate of the nation, during wartime. < /sarcasm>
Many of us never put Bush/Cheney bumper stickers on our cars, fearing vandalism by the advocates of tolerence and diversity. Ditto for yard signs.
