Chris Matthews: Press should cover Red America as a "Foreign Country".
Hardball | 11/5/04

Posted on 11/05/2004 5:21:26 PM PST by Timeout

Chris Matthews was discussing the "moral values" impact on the election with Jim Van der Hei (WaPo) and Jim ______ (Chicago Tribune). The two Jim's actually seemed to get it...they specifically said it was demeaning to attribute it merely to evangelism, gay marriage and abortion. They agreed that the press does NOT understand heartland America.

Chris had not really agreed with them, simply asked the questions. And then, at the very end of the segment, he said:

"Maybe we have to start covering 'America' as a separate beat...like our foreign correspondents".

Amazing! The entire media elite MISSED the most important issue in an election that had gone on for 2 full years. How? By living in the center of blue country where they rarely interact with church-going "folk". And Chris' solution is that they should start covering a vast swath of the country as if WE are foreigners. Funny, coming from the guy who went in the tank for the French looking candidate.

Actually, we have to start treating the Old Media as from foreign countries, i.e., Old Europe.

What a lot of people don't get is that there is so much more to it than religion. I'm not a particularly religious person, but I see my values reflected in the republican party and scorned by democrats. Gee, I wonder which way I'm going to vote.

The wife uttered a loud gasp when we saw and heard that.

I guess we have to start treating liberal reporters like they were French, in other words, treat them like the shiite they are.

Two words, Mr. Matthews: Sexual nihilism.

In there you will find the root of nearly all moral evils, especially since the 1960's.

The reporters were kind of aghast at the comment made by Chrissy. You could see it wash over their faces quickly.

Matthews is from Philadelphia which along with Pittsburgh is blue. Every other county in Pennsylvania is red.

You didn't watch too carefully, or perhaps you interpreted Chris Matthews words as you did because he hurt your feelings in the past. What Matthews was doing in the statement you quoted is called Making an Mdmission. He was admitting that the New York-Washington media was not in touch with big parts of America; thus, the liberal media now has no choice but to cover fly-over country as if they were foreign correspondents.

When an opponent offers that kind of admission, then take it and quit yer bitching for a moment.

Fine. Chris, you can apply for a passport to cross into Ohio.

See if you get one.

"Maybe we have to start covering 'America' as a separate beat...like our foreign correspondents".

Actually I agree with him. The MSM and those they represent are in a completely different culture than us. They have different values and different heroes. Sad thing is that if they were reporting on a foreign country they would be more respectful of the culture and the "natives."

What a lot of people don't get is that there is so much more to it than religion.

I appreciate what you say...but there is also so much more to religion than any of us see.

It is not religion per se...it is that thing at the bottom (or top) of religion.

I can't define it...but I (like all true religious) know it is there.

I am not posting to hear myself speak..."these are not my words"...please consider them.

Can ya believe these imbeciles? They will be even more leftist in the next election cycle, and we will once again clean their clocks in mid-term elections. I hope these idiots never get it!

Actually, I thought Rush touched on something very important today. I didn't hear it all, so I don't know if he pursued it fully. Yes...liberals want to portray the GOP majority as having to do with religion, specifically gay marriage. But they're missing a big part of it.

Red America wants back the America where we, the people, elect legislators, governors, representatives, senators and presidents to make laws. Courts will decide if those laws comport with the constitution...otherwise they will see that the law is followed.

We DO NOT want courts writing our laws. That's what happened with gay marriage...the Mass. Supreme Court ordered the legislature to write a law a certain way...that was the last straw. I think people were saying, to some extent, we want the courts back in their place.

It didn't help the libs cause that the Mass. case came on top of insults to our values like the Ten Commandments, creche scenes, prayer at football games, etc. Courts have been showing a hostility to our values and religious practices and, on Tuesday, a huge swath of America told them to Freep off.
