What a lot of people don't get is that there is so much more to it than religion. I'm not a particularly religious person, but I see my values reflected in the republican party and scorned by democrats. Gee, I wonder which way I'm going to vote.
I appreciate what you say...but there is also so much more to religion than any of us see.
It is not religion per se...it is that thing at the bottom (or top) of religion.
I can't define it...but I (like all true religious) know it is there.
I am not posting to hear myself speak..."these are not my words"...please consider them.
Actually, I thought Rush touched on something very important today. I didn't hear it all, so I don't know if he pursued it fully. Yes...liberals want to portray the GOP majority as having to do with religion, specifically gay marriage. But they're missing a big part of it.
Red America wants back the America where we, the people, elect legislators, governors, representatives, senators and presidents to make laws. Courts will decide if those laws comport with the constitution...otherwise they will see that the law is followed.
We DO NOT want courts writing our laws. That's what happened with gay marriage...the Mass. Supreme Court ordered the legislature to write a law a certain way...that was the last straw. I think people were saying, to some extent, we want the courts back in their place.
It didn't help the libs cause that the Mass. case came on top of insults to our values like the Ten Commandments, creche scenes, prayer at football games, etc. Courts have been showing a hostility to our values and religious practices and, on Tuesday, a huge swath of America told them to Freep off.
I agree, me too.
I wonder if the Dims realize they just alienated at least another 15 - 20% of their base!
Some Democrats have already voted for Bush.
As the media rants and fumes about the religious right, they forget about the old school Democrats in the south. Southerners are steadfast in their moral convictions, so the 'party faithful' may be faithful no more.
You're absolutely right. My fiance is agnostic, and he feels the same way.
I agree. A leftist friend asked me if atheists were welcome in the Republican Party. My response was that there are atheists and agnostics and non-religious people already in the party, but that unlike Democrats, they actually respect other people's religion, and don't mock them for believing in God. For all the talk of "tolerance" among liberals, they don't really have much tolerance, do they?
It's the Character issue in my mind. Bush is a man of conviction - Kerry a man of the polls.. Plus the SOB made his career bashing the US military.
