Donna Frye, a surfer who sports long blond hair and refuses to get a driver's license, is riding a wave of write-in votes for mayor that could sweep aside two graying 60-something Republicans and carry her into City Hall. The surf-shop owner has capitalized on a confluence of circumstances, including a pension scandal that has shaken the city financially.
The votes have not been completely tallied, but so far, the write-in ballots lead with 35 percent of the vote; Mayor Dick Murphy has 34 percent. The write-ins are expected to be overwhelming in favor of Frye, 52, who said she is extremely optimistic she will win once all the ballots are counted.
That's what's so frustrating. Our voter registration for repubs is 40%, dems 35%. You'd think with a 5% margin the repubs could win more conservative issues more often.
However, the CA GOP is not very effective. I mean .. how can you take them seriously when the only person they can find to run against Boxer is Bill Jones. Bill is so unknown, as well as not being a very good candidate .. and the GOP didn't help him. I voted for him because I couldn't even consider voting for anybody but a republican.
And .. after the last election .. good grief - we're stuck with the same overloaded DEMOCRAT state house. YUK!
I think the GOP allows the top 2 to run if neither gets 50% in the primary.
I'm sure the gay community (which is quite large), and the Muslim community (which supported 2 of the hijackers) are Donna's primary support.
I wanted to tell everybody outside of CA - Roger has a website http://www.rogerhedgecock.com
Roger's on the air everyday from 3-6, and you can listen to his show on the internet; just in case you want to keep up with this story about the mayor.
They should change that. This is absurd.
Oh definitely.
The homosexual and lesbian communities adore Donna.
The Muslims are primarily East County residents,
altho I think Clairemont has a rather large mosque.
Lots od democrat imports from East coast.
Like I said, San Diego has changed too much
for me. I had to get out.
It was the Clairemont group where the hijackers were staying .. and it turned out to be an apartment building where one of my kids used to live .. Scary!!
Roger is wonderful.
San Diego needs him.
I loved him as mayor,
which was cut short
by my cousin and his wife,
Maureen.
OMG!
That's awful
and I just remembered,
Lemon Grove has another mosque, doesn't it?
She's dem all the way and a BIG union supporter..of course the unions returned the favor... The city of San Diego government is rife with corruption issues.
Give 'em hell, Donna!! ROFL
Her skin is WAY older than 52.""
Actually, if she has been surfing in So Cal for most of her life, she looks quite good.
Well .. Roger does more good on the radio .. and he has said several times he would never consider running for office ever again.
But .. I think you're right about him staying on this issue.
You haven't changed.
Still a trouble maker!
Wait til you get a Donna of your own in Del Mar.
Oh, sorry, I forgot. Del Mar is already a smoke
free hamlet. So P.C.
and a nuclear-free zone! ROFL. ;-)
REALLY?
Something new?
OMGoodness.
I'm sure the gay community (which is quite large)
are Donna's primary support.
You are not kidding. I live in the major gay neighborhood
and signs all over to write in Fry and their newspapers.
We don't mess around,
at least not with nuclear power issues. ;-)
It's a fluke. WE'll see if she gets in, if there can be a non-plurality third person on the ballot mayor.
The City Clerk allowed it but the City Charter does not. Further there is a requirement that the winner of the run-off get a *MAJORITY* of the vote, that being 50% +1 or more. NO candidate will have that.
This was an ILLEGAL election. I'll post details with the ordinance, transcripts of interviews from the city clerk, city attorney, and former city attorney and so forth tonight, I hope.
