LONDON (Reuters) - For children's fantasy writer Philip Pullman, George W. Bush would make a perfect villain in his epic sagas of good and evil. "He would fit right in," said the British author of the trilogy "His Dark Materials" which now looks set to follow in the cinematic footsteps of Harry Potter and The Lord of The Rings as the next blockbuster franchise.
"Bush has this baying certainty and has imposed this fervent zealotry," said Pullman whose books have been condemned by church groups for attacking organized religion.
"The Christian right in America is the mirror image of the Islamic fundamentalists," he added.

Sounds like his book is going to be a real dog.
Gad, the God-haters abound.....
You ever notice that to the Left, what was considered good for most of human history is know evil?
Think about it for a moment - we have a group of Islamic extremists who go around oppressing women (for real oppression, not something cooked up by NOW) and murdering innocent people.
President Bush rallies as much of the free world as he can to fight this threat, very much like Churchill before him.
To the Left then, this is evil. However, appeasing the headchoppers and "honor" killers is good.
Man o man the Christian bashers are coming out of the woodwork the past 3 days. We Christians are becoming the new Jews.
Pullman, a genetic mutation, is a perfect example of what's wrong with the idiots in England.
Mr. Pullman, please name the last 3 people beheaded by Christians in America.
Expect to see this line more often in the coming days. This is the angle the Left is going to use to marginalize this victory. To them, any morality is religious, and any religion is extreme.
Substitute the words "Moral Middle" wherever you see "religious Right" or "Christian fundamentalist." Because that's who they're talking about, and it's a lot broader spectrum than they'd like to believe.
I would take this as a compliment. A mirror image is the opposite of the object placed in front of the mirror. Islamic fundamentalists are the opposite of the Christian right. Christian right values life, Islamic fundamentalists do not.
Mr. Pullman, you sir are a twit.
I'm sorry, blowing up civilians with suicide bombs solely because their religion is not most Christians' cup of tea. Christians are not remotely comparable to violent Islamist terrorists. It is a total slander and delusional.
To think I bought his books before I heard all of this. What an unpleasant guy.
"Bush has this baying certainty and has imposed this fervent zealotry,"
Insanity abounds. Bring it on and there will be NO blue states in 2008.
Please, you're insulting dogs.
Philip Pullman, You can kiss my bloody arse.
Pullman's books are sophisticated fantasies designed to lead children away from God.
He deserves to have the proverbial millstone put around his neck for this.
As an inveterate fantasy and SF reader, I read the first book when it came out, and part of the second, and only then realized what he was up to. Since then, of course, he has widely been proclaimed to be an enemy of God--and rightly so.
I don't so much mind atheists who argue their case in public, but insidiously propagandizing children to hate God is another matter entirely. Vicious and inexcusable.
He already made G-d and Angels the villains of his last set of books. Bush should be honored. He is hated by the right kind of people.
