An Open Letter to President and Mrs. Bush on their VERY Happy 27th Wedding Anniversary!

Dearest President and Mrs. Bush,

Last year on your anniversary, your many admirers here on Free Republic promised that for your next anniversary, we would give you four more years in the White House.
Well, Happy Anniversary!!

What a year it has been! President Bush, we have anguished
over the vicious attacks on your character, and sensed how deeply it hurt you, Laura.
You have said often that it hurts to have the one you love attacked, and know how difficult a year this must have been for you both.

But at the same time, this campaign has also brought you out among the people of this country
who have come to love you both as few Presidents and First Ladies have ever been loved.
You have heard from thousands upon thousands of us that we pray for you, respect you, and indeed, love you.
You have heard the screams and thunderous applause of massive crowds and met one on one with volunteers who would do anything in their power, and spend as much time and effort as it took to assure your reelection.
You have seen the intense loyalty that your leadership, integrity, character and strength, humor and love have created in millions of Americans.

We have heard you both say with a sense of nostalgia, that you knew no matter what happened,
this would be your last campaign together. And we remember your stories of your first ‘honeymoon’ campaign,
driving around Texas in your Olds Cutlass getting to know each other very well! But we have also sensed that regardless of the outcome of this election, you would still have each other, and because of your deep love and commitment to one another, that you both would be OK.

Your marriage has been such a shining example to the American people of what a committed marriage is all about…….something that is so much needed in this age of self-centeredness and throw-away marriages, . President Bush, you have said that Laura is “the love of my life” and want you to know that we are touched when you say that. We have seen your eyes well up with tears when you talk about your beloved wife and your beautiful daughters (who think your marriage is great ), and it has given us a window into your very soul.

Laura, we have seen your tender affection in holding your husband’s hand, or touching his arm in gentle support as he leads this nation through the turmoil of war and uncertainty, and know that your steadiness and serenity comforts and inspires him. We know that your intimate conversations when day is done and in the early morning hours are an encouragement and inspiration to him, and help him to continue to lead us with certitude and conviction.
We know that your prayers for him sustain him.

A marriage like yours, which has endured the hardships and joys of 27 years of living and working as a team, and come out stronger and deeper because of them, is a precious gem in our contemporary culture.
The two of you are one……….and the American people have been privileged to get a glimpse into that unity at work as you have let us in on some private moments in public places.

You have clearly placed God and your shared faith in Him at the center of your life together, and His work in you both is evident in the joy, radiance and peace that your faces reveal. God has richly blessed you in your marriage, and by choosing to allow you to lead us, He has blessed us as well.

I didn't know it was your 27th Anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. President Bush. Happy anniversary from Jack and Chris Lavelle. On Wednesday, Chris and I "celebrated" (well, at least we had a nice dinner and a great movie - "Ray") our 25th wedding anniversary. I, like President Bush, feel like the luckiest guy in the world to have the love of a great woman.

I heard that there is a relative of Barney scheduled to come live at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in the near future. A Miss Beasley? Welcome to Miss Beasley, and many more happy years together for the President and Mrs Bush.

I thank God daily for a President who, and whose family, know that moral clarity isn't just about sex. All of us here embrace the man who embraces our values. President George W. Bush did himself proud when he chose Laura as his wife -- and she didn't do too bad either when she accepted. ;)

As a country, the no-longer-silent majority spoke and blessed President George W. Bush with our trust for another four years. It's a bonus that our trust will help our first couple savor yet another anniversary together.
