Anchor Glass Container Corp. closed Thursday, the same day President Bush outlined his second term's emphasis on small business and concern for American interests.
Union employees received word Thursday evening. Roughly 350 of them are now out of work.
The 3 to 11 shift was sent home, according to Charles Tressler, president of Union Local 149 of the Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Union (GMP). "The plant is closed," Tressler said. "The machines were shut down at 7:30 p.m. The reason they gave was economic. The glass industry is softer. There are fewer sales.
"Once the company makes its mind up, there's nothing to change that, nothing to change their minds."

Under Clinton administration, I worked for a company that without warning filed for bankruptsy and put 10,000 of us out of work in one day - do not remember seeing squat about in liberal press.
Here's the problem, they can't add. They claim to be losing money, but the earnings are actually up almost 100 million compared to the same quarter last year. I pasted the following language from the article.
"According to its Web site, the company earned $286.2 million in the last quarter of 2004, down from $192.5 million during the same period in 2003, a net loss of $5.9 million."
They could probably go to work for the non-union company that competes with Anchor Glass.
The other option: get your anarchist buddies to stop breaking windows, so architects don't design buildings with brick fronts.
Maybe they're using democrat congressional math where an increase is actually a drastic cut?
Union Blood suckers that expect $30 per hour for a minimum wage job....duh....
That's because you're a newbie who hasn't been here 2 weeks yet.
Nothing wrong with that, but check the FR archives.
If it happened within the last 6½ years, the odds are pretty good that I posted the article.
(I can't imagine missing one THAT big!!!)
Why did impose strangling taxes, regulations, restrictions and union empowering laws in the first place?
Rust Belt states aren't losing jobs to Sunbelt states because of the weather. The weather hasn't changed in several hundred years.

Because I love you, maaaan.

Not really newbie here, and I do not consider Free Republic member of liberal press.
True Willie, you are consistent. The true heir to the Flintstone's Schleprock: "it will never wooork". But maybe some of these 350 folks should have seen the writing on the wall and grabbed one of the 350K jobs that were created last month. BTW, the sept. numbers were revised up to 115K. Cheers.
and along with that, TAXS, ECO RESTRICTIONS, LAW SUITS
I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
Picked up a shovel and I walked to the mine
I hauled Sixteen Tons of number 9 coal
And the straw-boss said, "Well, bless my soul"You haul Sixteen Tons, whadaya get?
Another older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
Union greed strikes again, cuts into bottom line when it takes 1 supervisor, 2 electricians, and 3 laborers to change a lightbulb.
Well maybe they should have voted for Bush
hee hee hee
This factory has been on the edge of closing for 20+ years.
Cheer down Willie. You are way too happy.
Willie is still campaigning for Kerry.
