The last word on Bushs bulge
Call off the conspiracy freaks. Now it can be told: That mysterious bulge on President Bushs back during the first presidential debate was not an electronic device feeding him answers, but a strap holding his bulletproof vest in place.
Speculation about the bulge on the Internet only increased since Georges de Paris, the Washington tailor who makes Bushs suits, told The Hill last month that it was nothing more than a pucker on the back of Bushs coat caused when he crossed his arms.
But sources in the Secret Service told The Hill that Bush was wearing a bulletproof vest, as he does most of the time when appearing in public. The presidents handlers did not want to admit as much during the campaign, for fear of disclosing information related to his personal security while he was on the campaign trail.
The suspicion that Bush was, indeed, wearing something under his coat was given further credence by Dr. Robert M. Nelson, a senior research scientist for NASA and Caltechs Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and an international authority on image analysis, who conducted tests while working at home on his own computers.
I am willing to stake my scientific reputation to the statement that Bush was wearing something under his jacket during the debate, Nelson told Salon.com. This is not about a bad suit. And theres no way the bulge can be described as a wrinkled shirt.

The type lae enforcement officers wear are designed to stop handgun rounds, but will not stop a high poweres rifle or an edged weapon. I think the kind that the President wears, will stop almost anything.
Who care what they believe. They're a lost cause anyway.
The DUmmies will probably be upset that sKerry didn't warrant a bulletproof vest. Why would the terrorists take out one of their best allies?
Don't know if the vest would stop Helen Thomas's nose if she were to run smack-dab into him. Did they stress test for such an encounter?
the dems should of ask me
i said it was a bullet proof vest because it looked like my husbands
Not sure with that one, ROTFL
It's a ceramic armor plate.
Looks like a bullet proof vest that squares off just below the neck to me on both pictures. Seems consistent to me.
Does President Bush even need privately broadcast help to know how to drive???
I can't believe that the MSM STILL talks about the "buldge" at the debate. Shows that they could not defeat him on ideas.
(grunting, thumps chest and howls) LMAO!
It's obvious to any thinking person that it's a vest. Remember the POTUS was on stage with an antiwar activist who had attended meetings to assasinate US Senators some thirty years ago. Protecting the President was prudent wouldn't you say?
That bulge is called a backbone. Something the worms on the left don't posssess.
Who cares what they think. They're wasting my time and yours fudging around with this issue. It just shows they bring nothing to to table of ideas.
Does he have a dip in? I am betting he is Copenhagen guy.
Yes. The worms on the left have NO bulges.
Hmmmm.....I thought they were talking about another bulge.
Great photo!
The bulletproof vest was worn because it was feared that Arlen Specter or John McCain might try to stab President Bush in the back at any time.
