Coulter: One last flip-flop
TownHall.com ^ | November 4, 2004 | Ann Coulter

Of course, we could have done it a lot earlier on election night but for "Boy Genius" Karl Rove. It's absurd that the election was as close as it was. If Rove is "the architect" – as Bush called him in his acceptance speech – then he is the architect of high TV ratings, not a Republican victory.

I strongly disagree. I think Rove kept Bush in this race in the face of an enormous onslaught from the MSM, Hollywood, Michael Moore, et al.

As much as I like Ann, STFU. Now is not the time for this. Now is the time to set the agenda.

What an odd time to be critical.

Look, the man won with 51% of the popular vote and a respectable 286 EVs. I thought Ohio was getting too close for comfort at times but I can't say that I'm disappointed. All things considered, Rove did damn well. And I say this as an admirer of Ann.

A lesser President than W would have been crushed by the RATS, MSM, and 527s.

Between John Kerrys campaign war chest, the DNC pile of cash, and 527s, they spent nearly $1 BILLION in attempting to defeat Bush. Not including the hundreds of millions in free support from the MSM.

Karl Rove and President Bush did an amazing job defeating such an enemy.

I was paying $2.50 a gallon for gas every week and wondering how long Bush could stay ahead of Kerry. I am just happy he won.

Rove did a very good job with the turnout effort.

My criticism of him still stands - for months, starting during the spring, he allowed the Dems to run alot of hateful 527 ads in the swing states, and did not rebut them. this election didn't need to be this close, it could have been a 5-7% popular vote win, rather then 3%.

and if it wasn't for the swift vets, I don't even want to think of where we would be right now.

Is that woman ever happy? I like Ann, don't get me wrong but why is she being obnoxious?

I agree...this is not a time to be ashamed of conservative values, it is time to embrace them and move this country forward. Explain to me how the gay marriage ban can pass and someone can then vote for Kerry? Only when the difference is not clear. It shouldn't have been close in the EC. Minorities are extremely socially conservative, but Republicans have not worked hard enough to explain the difference and show the way. We can change the direction of this country and we need to do it NOW!

Its too bad Bush didnt have a secret plan with the Saudis to lower gas prices before the election.

I think Ann must be cranky from lack of sleep. It's a little early to start denigrating our success.

Interesting. Mark Steyn commented that the election shouldn't have been so close in his latest column:

"As much as I like Ann, STFU. Now is not the time for this. Now is the time to set the agenda."

Why I prefer Laura Ingram over Coulter who I find... can't quite figure out what I find off about her but there is something odd.

I think they played it safe. It seemed as if they were in "don't rock the boat" mode the entire campaign.

I never saw them play up Bush's role after 9/11. He was magnificent then.

Also nothing was shown of him flying onto the carrier or his extraordinary stealth mission into Iraq on Thanksgiving.

I understand that almost nothing was spent in California yet he got 44%. Is it too much to consider that if he'd made the effort he might could have even won the state?

Ann give the man his due. We just got 59,000,000 votes which has never been done. This was a tough election the MSM was probably worth 10-15 points for Kerry. Even in the Reagan years I have never seen the media so tough on a candidate. We should celebrate not denigrate.

I tend to agree with Ann on this. They could have hit Kerry harder/sooner. But, as they say, it's all water under the bridge.

After a suitable period of rightfully earned gloating (which should be about over) we need to focus on the agenda, and crushing the remaining Dems in '06.

I'm not always the biggest Rove fan, but he and Gillespe did do a good job with GOTV. They sent some good out of state help here, and assisted with starting my county's victory center here.

Then once it was started up, LOCALS ran the show in the county. In my county's case(a targeted one) - we exceeded our goal by 10,000 Bush votes.

Agreed. These fellows are the unsung heroes of this whole election. They hung it out in the breeze and took a lot of licks but they got the bastard. The WH may not officially recognize them but they need one heck of a gift basket.

I guess John Kerry went into the primary without a plan to win the election. TheDemocrats threw everything they had at this election. They ran a phony Vietnam War hero and a phony Southerner. They had middle-aged women executives at MTV hawking "Rock the Vote" to entice the most uninformed young people to vote for Kerry. They had Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews and New York Times darling Eminem. They had documentaries, books, the universities, Hollywood (and the French!) on their side. They had liberal thugs ransacking Bush-Cheney headquarters, stealing Bush-Cheney signs and slashing the tires of Bush-Cheney get-out-the-vote vans...
