So Much to Savor (Peggy Noonan happy Dance.)

God bless our country.

Hello, old friends. Let us savor.

Let us get our heads around the size and scope of what happened Tuesday. George W. Bush, 43rd president of the United States, became the first incumbent president to increase his majority in both the Senate and the House and to increase his own vote (by over 3.5 million) since Franklin D. Roosevelt, political genius of the 20th century, in 1936. This is huge.

George W. Bush is the first president to win more than 50% of the popular vote since 1988. (Bill Clinton failed to twice; Mr. Bush failed to last time and fell short of a plurality by half a million.) The president received more than 59 million votes, breaking Ronald Reagan's old record of 54.5 million. Mr. Bush increased his personal percentages in almost every state in the union. He carried the Catholic vote and won 42% of the Hispanic vote and 24% of the Jewish vote (up from 19% in 2000.)

It will be hard for the mainstream media to continue, in the face of these facts, the mantra that we are a deeply and completely divided country. But they'll try!

Since the Republican Party formed and ran a candidate for president in 1856, there have been 38 presidential elections. Of these, the winner won 17 times with a narrower popular vote margin (percent voting for the winner less the percent voting for someone else) than G. W. Bush's 2% margin received on Tuesday:

Reagan, 1980, 2%

Carter, 1976, 0%

Kennedy, 1960, -1%

Truman, 1948, -1%

Wilson, 1916, -2%

Clinton, 1996, -2%

Cleveland, 1884, -3%

Garfield, 1880, -3%

Hayes, 1876, -4%

G. W. Bush, 2000, -4%

Harrison, 1888, -4%

Cleveland, 1892, -8%

Buchanan, 1856, -9%

Nixon, 1968, -13%

Clinton, 1992, -14%

Wilson, 1912, -16%

Lincoln, 1860, -20%

Does Bush have a mandate? You bet he does!

His replacement would be appointed by Gov. Napalitano (D)

There is such a dignity and grace about Peggy Noonan.

Some wonderful inner quality that makes you listen in awe as she expresses her thoughts so eloquently.

5.) Persuade Ashcroft to stay. Why? Thew left hates him. That's good enough reason alone!

My dad and I were talking about the speculation of Ashcroft, Powell, and Rumsfeld leaving, and I said isn't ironic the same MSM speculating the thought of these three gentlemen leaving the administration when it's these three men the left hates with a passion. The left was in absolute love with Powell until he made the case for war in Iraq.

Orrin Hatch to the Supreme Court ?

Just what we need - senile old criminal fart who is in the back pocket of hollywood and the riaa mob.

He preaches copyrights, and his own official website had STOLEN scripts on it. When he was caught, they did remove them but never even mentioned an apology. He is just another pig that needs roasting.

I decided to repost it for the benefit of the odd few among us who log off occasionally,or who do not posess the foresight to search for articles they do not know exist but might enjoy reading.

That's a cordial approach for your site, but around here, there are rules.

Name Orin Hatch to the Supreme Court.

No way. The guy in no way deserves the nod. He's been getting rolled for the last 2 years anyway.

Peggy:

I have been a fan ever since I read "What I Saw at the Revolution". I consider myself one of the pajama clad yeomen of which you speak.

I was heartened and gladdened when I heard that you had joined the ranks of the Bush campaign.

Thank you for all you have done. I savor our victory as I type.

I read this column to my wife tonight (particularly to reinforce her thoughts re the MSM) and remembered reading another article by the ever admirable Ms. Noonan about four years ago.

That earlier article prompted us to travel to Pensacola (about ninety miles) the next morning to a rally supporting the President-elect and the effort to count votes cast for him our military.

Her writing is as strong as ever and by God's grace we can enjoy her eloquence can be enjoyed calmly and with pride these four years later.

May God continue to bless Peggy.

"Who was the biggest loser of the 2004 election? It is easy to say Mr. Kerry: he was a poor candidate with a poor campaign. But I do think the biggest loser was the mainstream media, the famous MSM, the initials that became popular in this election cycle. Every time the big networks and big broadsheet national newspapers tried to pull off a bit of pro-liberal mischief--CBS and the fabricated Bush National Guard documents, the New York Times and bombgate, CBS's "60 Minutes" attempting to coordinate the breaking of bombgate on the Sunday before the election--the yeomen of the blogosphere and AM radio and the Internet took them down. It was to me a great historical development in the history of politics in America. It was Agincourt. It was the yeomen of King Harry taking down the French aristocracy with new technology and rough guts. God bless the pajama-clad yeomen of America."
