Jefferson Davis was "selected, not elected" Provisional President of the Confederate States.

If Kerry had managed to win the electoral votes of Ohio by means of the provisional ballots, would he have become Provisional President of the United States?

Heard a talking head say that Rummy is leaving, and Powell might take his place. I can live with that.

I'd much rather it was the other way around. I don't know if I'd be so quick to believe the talking heads these days anyway.

Bush will appoint a Dem or two to the next cabinet in order to "heal the divide" in the country. He has to, IMHO, in order to help his successor take the reins in 2008. I suspect we will see something like Gephardt get Secretary of Labor (something innocuous really) which would be a huge bone thrown to the Dems. He will appoint a Pubbie for HHS though. I could see Condi getting SOS, and Rudy getting AG. SOD, I think he should reach out again to Sam Nunn. Lugar is rumored here, but I would think Bush is not too happy with his comments about the conduct of the war. Don't overlook John Breaux either, who is a personal friend of Bush. He could also get AG.

I would like to see Tommy Franks as SecDef....I suspect Marc Racicot will get AG if Rudy doesn't want it.

I would have thought Rudy would be great as CIA director...he should be somewhere that he can kick ass....somewhere so that he can go after terrorists like he did the Mafia. I just wish he wasn't so socially liberal, because we may need someone like him in 2008...and if we are involved with Iran or China or Syria or No. Korea or some combination thereof...I will suspend the social issues and push for Rudy...because he WILL prosecute this war...with a vengence...and he is fantastic...you only have to look at his job with the police in NYC to see that (not to mention the mob).

I hope Rudy might have a "Zell Miller" moment and realize "because of technological advances (pics of the womb) and getting older" that abortion is wrong.

Possible, but even for an honest person admitting something like that is difficult – because you have to admit you were wrong about human life. I am not saying that he would be intentionally self-deluded. Just that there is a huge amount of intellectual inertia involved in that kind of a decision. But it could happen.

I'm not surprised by his visit to your father's funeral. Your assessment of him is right on, I think.

I think you have a good point. Lucrative jobs come to staffers and cabinet members after the first term....not after the second term. THEY ALL KNOW THIS. Those who are looking for financial gain will leave now. Look back over the last twenty years you'll find proof.

Just because I stole something from Blather doesn't make me Blather :-)

You had better not start stealing material from Ann Coulter. I might start sending you love letters.

Secretary of State is not a stepping stone to the Presidency. Rudy knows that. He will not take it

Personally, I don't think Bush has to reach out to anybody. The Dims are totally immune to "reaching out," just as much as Saddam Hussein was immune to diplomacy.

The Dims are such elitist, hate filled, close minded people that nothing the Pubbies can do will change their minds on anything.

It is time to stop trying to coddle them and get on with our true agenda.

This is a photo from the last rally in Milwaukee for GWB. TT looks frail to me.

Tommy's the greatest Governor with whom we in the State of Wisconsin have ever been privileged.

May have been the photo, Lando; Tommy spoke at one of our gatherings shortly before the election and he looked quite well and was in marvelous spirits.

Probably helped the Badgers won that day, too! (And continue to win!)

Well, my dad wasn't a rich man. He was conservative, but he wasn't a big donor because he didn't have the means...he and Tommy became friends when Tommy hired him to paint his early campaign signs.

That's what I love so much about that story. Tommy never forgot Dad, even after he became the busy governor of my home state.

I'm glad to hear you say that. It really bothers me to hear people call him unflattering names. Few people in politics measure up to Tommy in quality of character, as far as I'm concerned.
