Mark Lavin is talking about it right now on the radio--that he (Specter) is backing down from the statement!

Too late. We know he said it yesterday as he's said it for months. He has made clear that he will obstruct Bush's judicial nominees if they're conservative and pro-life. That is an outrage!

Conservatives in the Senate have been concerned over Specter being appointed Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee for over a year. And they've been concerned for the very reason that is coming up - again - now.

I suggest reading THIS THREAD for more information on the subject.

After seeing the President in action at the press conference this morning, I think specter will re-think his comments.

And, stock up on Depends.

A far as I am concerned Spector does not have the necessary credibility to even server on the judicial committee. He supported Clinton during impeachment proceedings.........babbling about Scottish Law. Soon afterwards I believe his wife was appointed to a high paying position. Coincidence???

And there is another new thread that is suggesting that Chuck Grassley (Iowa) might get the job. That would put "Spectacle" in his place!

I wouldn't worry about Specter. In fact, Specter may be the perfect head-fake for Republicans. If he doesn't play ball, the Republicans will bounce him so fast your head will spin. They can do that anytime they want.

My thought exactly. Just move him to something else as vitally important... like "fish bait regulations and permits"

Also, don't forget Spectre's 'magic bullet' theory from way back regarding JFKs assassination.

Yes, Grassley is actually next in line for the position. However, he's also next in line for Chairman of the Finance Committee - a much more powerful position. He has stated that he wants that and not the Judiciary Committee position. Therefore, if Grassley still does not want the position, Specter is next in line. There are various scenarios on preventing Specter from attaining chairmanship in THIS POST.

"Why the hell is he in the GOP? He'd be much more comfortable across the aisle"

I was door-knocking for GOTV with a guy who used to live in Philadelphia. He said that Spectre became a Republican out of convenience because he wanted to run for office and the Democrats already had a candidate they supported.

He's followed his career, and saysSpectre never has qualified as a Republican in anything but the label. He was voting for Clymer (conservative running on the Constitutional ticket).

"An ounce of prevention....worth a pound of cure." Let's not give him a chance. This was Specter's last compaign, so what has be got to lose by "Borking" every Conservative nominee that comes before him?

"Why the hell is he in the GOP?"

Probably needs the "R" beside his name to get elected in his area.
Unfortunately people don't vote for the man, they vote for the R or D.

Yes.
Britt also said he got his ass handed to him by Frist, as well. Seems word coming out now is that Spector isn't guaranteed the job, and replacing him isn't unusual.

Britt said he needed ten votes for the Chairmanship, and six of the votes are very, very Conservative.

he would have had it, if he didn't want Finance. I think Coryn or Kyl would actually be better!
