All right, I'll give.

He is just so plastic, that it is too little too late.
He should have MADE her stop campaigning and go the doctor last week when she felt a lump.

I hope she recovers fully. The Edwards always seemed like people who would make decent neighbors, actually.

I know that John Edwards has done some very sleazy things to make money, but he and Elizabeth seem like perfectly nice people otherwise.

I guess the next thing we'll hear is that NandO thinks Burr should give up the seat in sympathy.

On another side, I'll bet finding a doctor to treat her wasn't easy. I know I would want a ten-page, air-tight waiver first.

breats? Isn't that what a Japanese sheep does?

uh..."bleats"...unless you're Kim Jong ILL in Team America.

Seriously, thoughts and prayers for her recovery. We can disagree with them, and be glad that they won't be in power(either in the Senate or in the WH) in just a short time...but we can still hope for her best, healthwise.

Frozen sections at the time of surgery can diagnosis cancer immediately and it is possible to get results quickly.

My estimation of Kerry and Edwards just went up for not announcing this the day before the election in order to gain sympathy votes.

Hmmm. Your comment prompts consideration of other things about the Kerry/Edwards decisions and behavior in those last couple of days, especially election night and the day after.

Will not speculate on this thread though, out of respect.

Evidently she put the test off until after the vote.

Negative. A biopsy isn't equivalent to an in home pregnancy test.

I disagree.
It would have reminded folks that Kerry had cancer earlier and make folks afraid that Edwards may end up getting the office.

I wish her the best. Breast cancer is treatable and survivable if caught early, and hers seems to have been, thank goodness.

It can also be weight related. I not saying that to be ugly! I had a dear friend pass two years ago from cancer that initially started in her breast. Excess weight stores estrogen, and many types cancer are related to estrogen. My friend's was. She was overweight, and the doctors strongly suggested that she maintain a healthy diet. Once she was in remition, they put her on a hormone suppressing drug. She basically produced no estrogen. The diet thing was hard for her, and she never took it very seriously. The cancer returned in her liver.

----I hope Freepers behave themselves and show some respect for the sick.----

Well frankly, my first thought upon hearing the news was to be reminded of Liz Edwards' suggestion -- when they bristled at Kerry's politicization of their daughter -- that the Cheneys were ashamed of their daughter for being gay.

So, naturally, the question presents itself: Does the failure of the Kerry/Edwards campaign to drag out Liz Edwards' sickness as a campaign issue before the election mean that John Edwards was ashamed of his wife for having cancer? Hmmmmmmmmm?

I do wish Mrs. Edwards well and sincerely hope she recovers. I don't wish cancer of any kind on anybody (well, maybe Arafat). But after all these people have said and done, you'll forgive me if I'm not in a particularly conciliatory mood.

My respect for John Edwards -- and probably Kerry as well -- just went up a notch if they knew this before the election and kept it quiet. We had our hands quite full enough without dealing with a sympathy vote.

Of course, if they knew and then focused grouped to see if they should announce it, that's another story.

I hope Mrs. Edwards beats it.
