I read today that "Ohio’s Amish turned out at polling stations in Holmes, Wayne and Stark counties in what some described as record numbers."

Please point out for me these counties. I'm thrilled and touched by the Amish's rare active participation in this election, for the first time since they voted for Eisenhower (so I've heard).

Evangelicals across the bottom of the state turned out...Having the Gay marriage ban on the ballot was a key factor.

My only dissapointment about the election was that we were not able to carry Stark County to the president. We were hit very hard with the Act-up and other ABB morons. And of course non-stop ads about the job losses and plant closings shoved down our throat by the dems . Thank God so many voters did stay with our Pres.

Great job Stark County workers--we did darn good against the nasty tide we were up against.

I'm gonna go back to my hometown of Cincy and have me some Skyline Chili, Grater's icecream, catch a Bengal's game this weekend, and thank all the good people of Hamilton County for re-electing our President Bush to 4 MORE YEARS.

You can also see the effect of urban sprawl and so-called white flight in Medina County, which though reliably Republican went bigger for Bush this time around. I moved here in 2000, but vote in Cuyahoga County that year. In my neighborhood the KE signs were everywhere (due to high employment of union workers), but as you traveled south towards Medina and Wadsworth, much more BC signs. This also is reflected in Geauga County, just east of Cuyahoga.

Canton is in Stark county, in NE Ohio (it's marked on the map above). Surprisingly, it went Kerry, but went Bush last time. The Canton and Massillon city votes probably overwhelmed the suburban and rural areas. Wayne county is directly west. Holmes county is directly south of Wayne county.

They are in the NE. Canton is Stark Co. However the Hoover Co. and Timken Co. layoffs (also in Stark Co.) did not help the Stark Co. showing. I live in Canton.

I grew up in Cincy. Very heavy Catholic population. Lots of churches. More kids attend private Catholic schools than public schools, I believe. There are no strip bars in Cincy. You can't buy porno in Cincy. Very conservative town.

Stark is a swing county. The huge manufacturing job losses hit hard there, so no surprise. I'd be a lot more inclined to blame Taft over Bush. I lost my job as a research scientist for a company in Lake county, but I don't blame anybody except the company that let me go.

Athens County (home of Ohio U) - the only blue state in S/SW Ohio.

Same thing is happening here. Franklin Co. has been blue since the '88 election. The tentacles from the Columbus urban center are reaching into the suburbs (Upper Arlington had about as many K-E yard signs as B-C). But once you get out into Delaware or Pickaway or the other surrounding counties, the red starts to dominate.

So while trapped in a blue area, I still responded to the GOTV effort here because I know it's a statewide election and winner take all for the EVs. It's a little discouraging to have to deal with local 'Rat officials, but, for now, they're stuck with relatively innocuous things (keeping trash collection going, fixing streets, etc.). At least they're not running the WOT or picking federal judges.
