Priority 1: Remove Specter from Judiciary (Thread 1)
11-3-04 | Always Right

Posted on 11/03/2004 7:39:39 PM PST by Always Right

Whereas, liberal Senator Arlen Specter is in line to be Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Whereas, liberal Arlen Specter has a stated litmus test against pro-abortion judges.

Whereas, liberal Arlen Specter has stated he will fight against conservative judges

Whereas, in the past liberal Arlen Specter has helped defeat great judges like Robert Bork,

Whereas, the Democrats have loaded the Judiciary Committee with extreme liberals such as Kennedy, Feinstein, Leahy, and Schumer.

Whereas, liberal Arlen Specter is in a position to turn our huge and historic election victory into a defeat by killing the nomination of all decent judges,

Be it resolved, that we will do whatever it takes to get liberal Arlen Specter off the Judiciary Committee

This will not be easy. We must convince GOP Senators to change their rules and get this SOB off the committee. The GOP has a historic chance to make a huge difference with this unprecedented victory. Arlen Specter can bring it all to a halt. We would have been better off if he lost. Our court system must be taken back from the liberal activist judges who currently infest the courts. We must bomb Senators and the President with tons and tons of e-mails on a daily basis to make this happen.

I can't see it happening, much as I'd love it to. The GOP is too softball and gracious and decorous.

Hugh Hewitt said flatly, though, that if MacSpectre turned obstructionist, he'd simply find himself removed.

Wish I had his confidence. I'll never forget Bork.

Yes, that would be a great move.

Repealing McCain/Slimegold would be another thing to take care of immediately.

It won't happen if we do nothing. We must push this issue hard and let them know how critical this is. There are some good Republicans in the Senate.

Who would be in the position to most influence the replacement of Der Schpector? I think a targeted approach might be more effective than random emails...

Yes, that would be a great move.

It isn't just a great move, it is absolutely neccessary. If Specter stays, yesterdays election was almost pointless as far as Judicial appointments go, which is one of the biggest reasons to win an election.

Spectre has already talked of obstructing Bush, he needs to NOT get this post at all.

I am sure Frist would be a great place to start. We would probably need a majority of GOP senators on board who are willing to change the rules. Pressure from Bush would also help.

I'm afraid we are gonna have to find a Trent Lott thing here with Arlen, something he has said or done that is just so embarrassing that the GOP leadership has to dump him.

I think if enough of us write very hard-hitting, but courteous letters to Bill Frist and to our own Republican senators, we might at least secure a commitment from the GOP Senate Leadership to bring all Bush judicial nominees to the Senate floor for a vote. This does not have to be announced publicly, so as not to humiliate Specter, but just let him know privstely that if he tries to bottle up any nominees he WILL be bypassed. Let him yell and scream and go all liberal in the confirmation hearings, I don't care - just don't let him be a one-man veto of nominees.

With the Senate is now 55-44, don't the Dems lose proportional seats in each committee? Instead of 10-9, won't it be 11-8,or 10-7?

2,000,000 conservative Christians came out to vote for GWB. Bush knows what they want, so he better toughen up and not let any RINO walk all over him.
Or Jeb will never be President.

Hatch has to step down as chairman because GOP rules say they must after serving eight years as chairman. Specter is in line because of seniority. But in reality, just having Specter on the committee is damage enough. Having him as chairman is a total disaster.

I think if enough of us write very hard-hitting, but courteous letters to Bill Frist and to our own Republican senators

A warning, physical letters may undergo a lengthy delay (this from Frist's own website) because they are first sent to radiation facilities to be de-anthraxed, and anything non paper in them (even a staple?) has to be tested leading to further delay. He suggests email, fax, or phone.

Whereas, Scottish Law quoting Spector is NOT American or Republican enough to entrust with critical responsibility.

Could Pres. Bush make a symbolic statement by sending them a couple of Scottish judges (Scottish ancestry) who are hard pro life.

It won't be as hard as you think.

When the new senate members are sworn in, there will be elections for new leadership.

Mitch McConnell a solid conservative ( and my senator) is in line for the Majority leadership position.

Mitch was the one that took Election Finance Law to the supreme court.

Start writing Mitch demanding that Specter not be allowed to chair this committee.
