Attorney General John Ashcroft 'plans to submit his resignation to Bush in the next several days'...
We have enough hi ups in power that think that "We the people" shouldn't be armed.... : ) <<< me
Rudy Giuliani?
Rudy would be great in Ashcroft's position. No offense to John, but he's way too politically careful for that position. Rudy is careful as well (all politicians are), but he's also able to convey his message fluently without struggle. Plus, he's tough and very highly respected by many.
That's exactly what I said. I said nothing about Specter at all, let alone that he would never take AG job. No kidding! Have you seen Specter lately? Looks old and feeble like he could never cope with any kind of job that he couldn't do in his sleep (like chairmanship of some senate committee.) He looks to me like he will be lucky to make it through 6 more yrs. of somebody handing him something to read and waking him up to read it. He's old, shaky, doddering, fumbling, beginning to resemble Byrd (like he may not always be aware of what is going on.)
I also would be sorry to see John Ashcroft go. I absolutely adore him.
He is a wonderful man and public servant. He deserves the rest if that is what he wishes.
I'm not qualified, but I'd just LOVE to be the center of rage and hate in the librat circles.
New Jersey might consider you.
Yes and most of them are Democrats and in the media/press.
The last four years have been pretty good for gun owners and with the AWB dead, I hope the next four years are even better.
The President's cabinet will, indeed, change in the next few months. I wouldn't put too much money on Rud-ay! becoming AG, though. Think beyond the box. Ask yourselves why wasn't he mentioned for Director of CIA?
My guess? National Director of Intelligence.
Secretary Powell will leave also. Who will replace him?
My guess? Condi.
I still have a hunch that Cheney will not be the VP in six months.
Furthermore, I'll go so far as to guess that Iraq will be a non issue in about 90 days or less.
I really like Rudi but he is anti-gun and pro-abortion.
Ashcroft's first move was to direct the justice department lawyers to promote the second amendment as being an individual right and not a collective right as Clinton viewed it.
Yes he does deserve a rest - directed hatred wears on you. I wonder some times how our president withstands the hurt and pressure. I guess he has the help he needs from above. :)
************************
Upon graduation, Rudy Giuliani clerked for Judge Lloyd MacMahon, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York. In 1970, Giuliani joined the office of the U.S. Attorney. At age 29, he was named Chief of the Narcotics Unit and rose to serve as executive US Attorney. In 1975, Giuliani was recruited to Washington, D.C., where he was named Associate Deputy Attorney General and chief of staff to the Deputy Attorney General. From 1977 to 1981, Giuliani returned to New York to practice law at Patterson, Belknap, Webb and Tyler.
In 1981, Giuliani was named Associate Attorney General, the third highest position in the Department of Justice. As Associate Attorney General, Giuliani supervised all of the US Attorney Offices' Federal law enforcement agencies, the Bureau of Corrections, the Drug Enforcement Agency, and the US Marshals.
In 1983, Giuliani was appointed US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he spearheaded the effort to jail drug dealers, fight organized crime, break the web of corruption in government, and prosecute white-collar criminals. Few US Attorneys in history can match his record of 4,152 convictions with only 25 reversals.
Likely departures include John Ashcroft, Colin Powell, Rummy, Spencer Abraham, Tommy Thompson.
Longshot but very possible departure is Condi Rice. I can sense in her interviews that she longs for private life again. GWB will have to close the deal with her personally to convince her to stay, IMHO.
With his statues?
Oh yeah. The libs hate him as AG, yet if they hadn't 'elected' a dead man, he would be a senator. Same with Thune - don't steal the previous election from him, and he doesn't take down Daschle. They are bringing it on themselves, and I am enjoying it. For some odd reason, they dont like being reminded of this...
Yes! May God continue to Bless, protect and strengthen both GWB and John Ashcroft.
What a wonderful day it was today to think about the joy GWB must feel. I know we all share that happiness here. Such a relief from what happened in 2000.
Condi has said, in public, several times, she is not interested in elective politics. I watched har say it when she was asked to go to Cali and run against Davis.
Most likely would be J.C. Watts. or a female. The GOP does want to "seed" the next President in office.
:O)
P
Personally, I think there are other candidates better than Ashcroft for the Supreme Court.
However, I'd almost like to see Ashcroft nominated to watch the libs' reaction. ;-)
The biggest reason is the job. Atty. Generals often do not even make it for a entire term. There are some people who worked very hard for the re-election who are chomping at the bit to help with the next four years. Ashcroft is the first, not the last who will be going home.
