Finally
Would that be the rapid spiral accompanying our "Flushing" of the "Two Johns"?
Maine gives 2 electoral votes to the statewide winner. 1 electoral vote each goes to the winners of each of its two congressional districts. They've had that system since 1969 and *never* split up their 4 electoral votes but some thought there could be a 3-1 split this year based on polling.
And, now, Bangor Daily News says it's been determined all four will goto Kerry. The article I link to says Kerry won Maine's two congressional districts, thus all the electors, on the economy and Iraq and Kerry had a better GOTV effort in Maine.
I haven't seen demographic breakdown. I'd like to see how Bush did with gays, blacks, jews and hispanics. I heard he did 5% better with hispanics in FL than in 2000 but nothing else about these other historically Democrat groups... In 2000 Bush got 25% of the gay vote and 9:1 blacks went for Gore.
Bush has coattails which is very, very important given his modest reelection mandate. Considering he turned at least one, perhaps, two Gore states (perhaps net +1) and broke the 50% mark--unlike Clinton, I would not say Bush anyone could claim he has no mandate.
The "largest number of voters" of all presidential candidates is more a talking point preemptive strike in light of Florida and Kerry's inability to concede in a timely manner rather than of useful value since the nation's population has increased since even the Reagan reelection 20 years ago.
I heard on the radio news yesterday that many more hispanics than expected had voted for Bush.
Great post.
You laugh, but I think that they really intended to use the exit poll data as a basis to challenge the results to get the illegal, provisional ballots to count in the case of a close election. 1) They stuffed the ballot boxes with provisional ballots, 2) their mantra "every vote counts and every vote will be counted", 3) their unrelenting hammer of Gore would have won if the votes were counted, and 4) the DNC directive to cry "voter intimidation".
Fortunately, as Hugh Hewitt says, "If it's not close, they can't cheat." God Bless George W. Bush and our great country.
I welcome them to the party of personal responsibility and freedom. Go W!
I see CNN has not called NM and Iowa for Bush43 yet!!!!! Disgusting.
Wisconsin has already been called for Kerry, right?
Is Iowa called for Bush too?
21 EV's? Hasn't it always been 20?
Maine must not have split, I take it.
According to CBS, they have fake but accurate documents showing that this race is still too close to call.
Correct, Maine did not split. FOX had them at 3 EVs for Skurry throughout the early returns, and finally gave Skurry the fourth EV sometime after 11pm if memory serves.
you got that right - they were waiting - or should I say lying in wait - for a big Ohio legal armageddon battle and wanted to steal those states during the chaos to help tip it to the continental one.
No, I believe Maine went 4-0 for Kerry.
Incredibly, yes, it was called as early as midnight by at least one network. The gap is 11,000 votes, or far, far less than the 1/2 of 1% which would trigger an automatic recount. (Since the national election is not in question, I don't know if the recount gets triggered.)

...Oh, and it did tighten up from 14,000 to 11,000 yesterday.
Has anyone given Bush Iowa yet?
Has New Mexico found all their ballot boxes?
Bush's lead of 3.5 million should rise after military votes are counted.
In 2000 Bush got 31 states with Iowa & N.M. he would have 32 this time as one red state went blue.
Thanks. :^)
