Conservatives need to start looking forward just 4 years and start thinking about who will run against Hillary in 2008.
Allowing that creature to win will undermine this nation worse than the 8 years she had puppeteering through Bubba.
Suggestions for a candidate/team?
Excellent choice, hadnt thought about the General.
I don't. Either she can handle the job of President, or she can't. If she can, she should run at the top of the ticket; if she can't, she definitely should not be VP, as she can be promoted at any instant.
The ideal ticket has two people who are up to the top office. The Presidential candidate should be charismatic enough to win, and capable enough to rule. The VP candidate should be experienced enough to advise, and capable enough to rule. Gravitas backs up charm. That's why Bush/Cheney is so much better than Bush/Quayle, and JFK/LBJ was so much better than Kerry/Edwards.
outside of a religious conversion for Giuliani where he becomes pro life, the only scenario where i support him is if he is an alternative to HER> if he takes her out in 2006, then i will take my chances with a pro life conservative....
Condi's a moderate, not a conservative. She's pro-abortion.
"nabad intelligence"
Make that BAD intelligence.
True, but that doesn't make him fit to be President. Period.
I can forgive the abortion...
I can't. Supporting the murder of the innocents by people who consider them "inconvenient" is the pinnacle of immorality.
I was only joking about (R)nold
I wish everyone was.
I would like to see J.C. Watts get into the limelight again. I still think he is one of the classiest and well spoken politicians of our time. We could do a lot worse, at least in my opinion.
I'm dreaming, but I would love to see someone like Coburn on the ticket. He would never make it because he is too conservative, but he would probabley make an excellent president.
two up and comers from LOUISIANA are David Vitter and Bobby Jindal.
I love Santorum, but who was the last Republican Senator to win a Presidential election?
It's been a long time.
Thing about Mitt is that he's a conservative Mormon who won the governorship of MASSACHUSETTS. That's not small feat for a Rep, much less an openly religious guy. The appeal to the Christians isn't denomination, it's honest piety. With G at the top of the ticket, you get the center/right spread and groom a nice solid conservative for the spot in '16.
Um... did anyone mention Sean Hannity?
Or anti-gun.
Sorry, I DON'T want to support him, and he'll never win the nomination. Let him be Sec. of Homeland Defense - he'll be better at it, and we'll be better off for it.
I've got it ...Rove. He's the man. He can even run his own campaign.
Unless someone like Colin Powell or Dick Cheney runs (not likely), I think it comes down to four people from distinct "wings" of the party:
1) From the Senate leadership and foreign policy experience wing of the party, Bill Frist. Frist will probably only stay in the Senate for two more years and retire in 2006. His prospects will hinge on how much leadership he provides in those two years. I actually think he is the frontrunner at this point if he should choose to accept it.
2) From the Governor ranks, Tim Pawlenty. He is up for re-election in Minnesota in 2006 and by showing he can win there once more, it will give the GOP cause to think he will be able to win in places like Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio and the like. He has no foreign policy experience as far as I know.
3) From the "moderate" wing of the party, Rudy Giuliani. OK, so the best he has done is Mayor of New York and, quite frankly, I'd like to see him take a shot at Queen Hillary in 2006 in New York state but short of that, his profile is high enough and his popularity strong enough that it is conceivable that even as a Pro-Abortion, Pro-Gay Marriage Republican, he has to be considered a factor.
4) From the wack-job, contrarian, "maverick" wing of the party, John McCain. McCain would likely win the election if nominated but he doesn't have much real support in the base of the Republican Party. Many of us are annoyed with his desire to seem indepedent in an effort to make the main stream media like him but the truth is, they DO like him and his foreign policy credentials and his credentials as a hawk are better than any other people on this list.
I also predict that if Hillary becomes the nominee of the Democrats, the VP candidate will be Elizabeth Dole.
"Giuliani is a pro-abort, anti-gun "republican." There's no way in Hades I'll vote for him. And it doesn't matter how many idiots wave the Hillary boogeyman at me."
I totally respect that. On some days, I feel the same way. Then I think about "her"....
I agree with you, unless it is a Senator who has some kind of executive experience in his past.
Guiliani and McCain are too liberal to get social conservatives excited.
Gotta be Pro-Life. This is NOT negotiable.
No chance. No one as anti-gun and pro-abortion as he will win a single southern state in the primaries. Far from that, his RINO stance on issues will attract Republican opposition.
