Generally, from Missouri South, that's Delta which equals high concentrations of Blacks.

In fact, anywhere in the Old Confederacy except South Florida and South Texas, if you see blue, you see blacks (not a racist statement, just reality. I'll wager that with very few exception, every one of thse Blue counties is at least 40-50% black

The bay area and LA County screw us.

Don't they pretty much stay amused screwing themselves?

It's Travis County where Austin is located. I live there, and I love the city, but most of the people in the city proper are morons, lots of liberal trash. It's very conservative out in the suburbs thankfully. Williamson County to the north is NOTHING like Travis, thank God.

I was on the UT campus today, and the atmosphere was very weird. It was so quiet, with a lot of people walking around in a state of shock. Most students were not the chipper bunch that they normally are. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.

Duly noted. It is possible that the map with be updated with that URL as they determine the gray areas going red or blue. I've saved the URL and we'll see. I'll give you a heads up when the map is final.

I figure population centers are the big contributors to the 'Islands of blue in a sea of red' phenomena... particularly if said population is comprised of sexual/ethnic minorities or it's a 'university' town.

I searched the whole thread to see if any one picked up on this. What we are seeing is a urban/rural divide in this map.

I.too, note that when people crowd together in big cities they tend to become socialists ans self-centered.

Perhaps mankind NEEDS connection with nature, soil, and being able to actually SEE the results of one's labor.

Sussex County (extreme NW New Jersey) went solidly for Dubya (62%), yet this map shows Sussex County as "white." Nice going, USA Today...

I agree. Those who work the land (producers) have a different view then those who are isolated from the the land (consumers). Some of my urban relatives are envious of my life, but support policies that are destroying my livelihood. There are so disconnected from the natural world that supports them that they are almost resentfull of those of us who produce the raw materials that make their urban lifestyle possible.

IMHO, when the urban socialist are in power, they tend to strangle the golden goose that feeds them with regulations.

I tend to agree we should be blue and the commies red -

but then again, I'd rather be a red-blooded American than a blue-blood elitist snob.

thank God America has Bush for another 4 years

Originally, you had to own land in order to vote. It appears there was great wisdom there. The founding fathers had great vision.

My county went blue by a 2% margin. But, we elected a pro-life Republican to the House by a 20% margin. Go figure.

I tell you what, each state should get ONE electoral vote, and the majority wins the country.

And each state should adopt the same system. Each county gets ONE vote. Majority in each county, and that person takes the county. Majority of counties, and that candidate gets the state!

That way, we are all truly on equal footing--and Los Angeles and New York do not choose the President.
