(Vanity) Does anyone have a video clip of the Ohio State marching band dotting the "i"?

Posted on 11/03/2004 7:31:41 AM PST by ken5050

Well, Ohio gives it to President Bush, though not all the MSM yet agree. However, it's emphatic, and NOBODY does it better than the Ohio State University marching band. When they spell out O-H-I-O and the tuba player "dots" the "i"...well, it's all over..Surely there's a Buckeye fan here somewhere with a clip, or a link?

"Script Ohio
The signature formation of the Ohio State Marching Band performed before, during halftime or after home football games.

Each time the formation drill is performed, a different fourth- or fifth-year sousaphone player has the privilege of standing as the dot in the “i” of “Ohio.”

At exactly 16 measures from the end of “Le Regiment,” the drum major struts out toward the top of the “i,” with a senior sousaphone player high-stepping a couple of paces behind. As the crowd’s cheering crescendos, the drum major stops and dramatically points to the spot, and the sousaphone player assumes the post of honor, doffs his or her hat and bows deeply to both sides of the stadium.

Woody Hayes and Bob Hope are among the select few non-band members who have had the honor of dotting the “i.”

That is indeed a fact. It was something the Michigan Band did as a tribute when they came to Ohio Stadium one year.

Hayes didn't try to tackle the sousaphone?

"The script OHIO was invented by the University of Michigan Marching band believe it or not..."

Well, duh. A Michigan Buckeye is always glad to help an Ohio Buckeye. I think they practiced it at Lambert Field.

Ah yes... even though I'm a USC alumni, the Script Ohio always gives me the chills.

Ya gotta love college football.

Great idea but can't help you. I graduated from another Ohio college and went to grad school at U of Michigan but as a native Ohioan who has now lived in the Columbus suburbs the last 20 years I must tell you that image of the Buckeye band is just perfect for today and hope someone has it to share.

Yesterday around 1 PM President Bush and his wife Laura stopped just to thank the volunteers at the Franklin County Bush campaign HQ and that sure was another touch of class for that wonderful couple. My husband and I have been working very hard as volunteers for months and am just happy and just so tired this morning but all our efforts sure were worth it. God bless the first family and our Nation!

I went to my first game at the Horseshoe Saturday. What a thrill!

I have a series of photos showing the block O becoming script Ohio but no video.
