Ed Bradley Calls Election for Bush on CBS, Rather Objects In a rather testy on-air exchange, circa 12:30am PST, between Dan Rather, CBS anchor, and Ed Bradley, long-time corresponent for CBS's 60 Minutes and an election night commentator, Bradley rather roundly criticized both Kerry and his own network for not accepting the obvious mathematics and calling the election for Bush.
Bradley pointed out that Bush leads Kerry by 145,000 votes in Ohio, and even if 250,000 provisional ballots remain (which he considered a high estimate), and that even if all the provisional ballots are valid, Kerry would need 79% of them in order to tie. A result Bradley considered impossible. Rather's reply was basically that "it was the position of CBS News to not call the race." Rather made no attempt to refute Bradley on the facts, except to state and restate that this is what CBS was going to do.
I'd love to see the transcript of the exchange. I do wonder how much Rather's trashing of 60 Minute's reputation had to do with Bradley's willingness to challenge Rather and CBS on the air.
BTW, does anyone know how that Rathergate investigation is going?
Bradley may be a liberal, but he can recognizes a 140k vote margin when he sees it.
Heard an interesting bit. The 145,000 that they are contesting in Ohio is a larger amount than the 85,000 they won PA. with.
Actually early on Tom Brokaw called the election for Bush, and then backtracked when Kerry/Edwards refused to concede.
It's obvious they witheld no other state calls based on provisional ballots. CBS and the others refused to call Ohio as a favor to the dems so they could more readily contest the election. CNN's screen headline today for the whole election is "Too Close To Call." Hardly the case when Bush has the popular vote by millions, and Ohio by 140,000.
I saw a similar episode with Brian Jennings. The guy on the treet said something about Ohio being called for Bush, putting him over the top and Jennings got a sour look on his face, like he was sucking on a lemon and said rather pomously that he was sorry and didn't want to embarass the man but that we hadn't conceded Ohio, yet. Then the guy answered that all the other stations had.
Then we turned channels just in time to watch Wolf Blitzer declare that Ohio was a green state. That was a riot too.
No...uh, Dan needs to eat SH*T and DIE!
Dr. Frankenstein has done wonderful things to Leslie Stahl's head. She's starting to look like Michael Jackson.
You got that right. Does anyone in their right mind not believe that if the situation in Ohio were reversed, Rather, Brokaw, Jennings, etc. would be out shouting from the top of a skyscraper for Bush to concede? Can't call the election....sheesh...what phonies. They'd love to call the election for Kerry. They just refuse to admit what is staring them in the face: Bush has won, and won big.
Nothing wrong with that...NBC was / is one of the networks that currently has Ohio in W's column...
Since when did blather have any principles!
If it weren't for voter fraud from NYC in Philly (by the busloads) I believe PA would have been Bush. I am still not convinced that Kerry won PA.
This is delicious. I forced myself to watch Rather for a while last night, just to see him squirm. He was doing exactly that. He was stammering and obviously in distress.
I admit it: I enjoyed it thoroughly.
That'll be overshadowed by the recount. |
We are all prepared for these RAT TRICKS....we're not surprised and we all know
PRESIDENT BUSH WON RE-ELECTION!!!
Just damn.
If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...
When the show came on, there was Katie, completely stone-faced, and wearing a high collar, button up black dress.
We nearly fell out of bed we were laughing so hard!
Isn't Brokaw the one who said "we've won another one" when Gore took another state during the last election?
I happened to stumble on to CBS while switching channels during a break at Fox. I heard this endless rambling by Rather, trying to explain how Kerry could still win. He is such an idiot. Time to retire, Dan.
