The trends look good, but be wary of circulation numbers. They are self-reported and newspapers have a natural inclination to fudge their numbers upwards - even with auditors. The Houston Chronicle has been accused in the past of even bribing auditors with trips to the nudie bar in exchange for higher numbers than they actually have. Another "trick" is to dump hundreds of papers at all of the elementary schools in the area and call it a "literacy" and "education" donation. 3 or 4 of them will make it into the teacher's lounge while the bulk go straight for the recycling bin in the parking lot at the end of the day, never read or noticed by anybody.

The demo-papers war chest is emptying fast.

Follow the money, then fight the battles......

Sorry I don't read the mainstream press or have sex with animals.

I'm pretty depraved, I'll admit, but even I have to draw
the line *somewhere*...
