AP via First Amendment Center ^ | 11-2-04 SIOUX FALLS, S.D. A federal judge partially granted Democratic U.S. Sen. Tom Daschle's request to limit the activities of Republican poll watchers, after he accused his opponent and the GOP of intimidating American Indian voters. The decision early today by U.S. District Judge Lawrence Piersol applies only to polling places in Charles Mix County. Daschle had requested an order for the whole state. As part of the ruling, Republican poll watchers in Charles Mix County are prohibited from following American Indian voters out of polling places. They are also prohibited from taking down the license-plate numbers of American Indians'... |

God, this is tedious. Fifty different threads seem a bit overdone. I don't think God is a member of FR. Or do you think DFU is God?

It is simply my exasperation expressing itself. It is nuts to clutter up this page with fifty different threads about events that have not yet occurred. How in the name of (God) do we navigate around these long spaces to find real news?

Go to the search engine and put in ELECTION 2004: name of state.
Most people have thought that this was a good way to organize it. I hope it works okay and will avoid 10 threads on each state.

and will avoid 10 threads on each state.Dream on; that is the sort of optimism that kept Harold Stassen on ballots nation wide for umpteen elections.
Thanks for setting it up, and I hope it works.

His Day in Court: Daschle uses the courts to try to steal a victory |

National Review Online ^ | 11-2-04 | Jon Lauck In a desperate final gamble at saving himself, Sen. Tom Daschle went to court last night in Sioux Falls. At 8:00 p.m., less than twelve hours before the polls were to open, Daschle sought an order from a judge he recommended be appointed to the federal bench seeking dismemberment of the Republican poll-watching operation in South Dakota.Late last week, Daschle had also sought an injunction in tribal court on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation asking that the poll-watching activities of Republicans not all parties be severely restricted. The Democrats won that suit, and people wondered if... |

Thune To Challenge Ruling
Republican Senate candidate John Thune says he'll appeal a judge's ruling over alleged intimidation of American Indian voters.
Thune Campaign Manager Dick Wadhams called US District Judge Lawrence Piersol's ruling a "sham."
Early today, Piersol ordered Republican poll watchers in Charles Mix County to stop following American Indian voters and writing down their license plate numbers.
Senator Tom Daschle took Thune, the state Republican Party and 200 poll watchers to court to end reported voter intimidation.
Wadhams says the campaign will take the case to the Eighth US Circuit Court of Appeals Wednesday. He says Daschle knows he's going to lose today and he's trying to lay the groundwork for a judicial challenge, which is why Thune's appealing.
