Just left polling place in VA where my brother voted. (I'm a MD res. am heading there after this post) Outside: All going in accepting yellow BUSH sample ballots. I waited for him in my car and of the 15 or 20 that went in only one accepted a light blue Kerry sample ballot before going in. I witnessed Blacks, Whites, Hispanics and Moms turning down the Kerry flyer for BUSH flyers. Inside: I didn't go in, but when my brother came back out he said of about 75 people inside that he saw only ONE person with Kerry sample. He said that a Hispanic couple in front of him were saying, in highly accented English, "BUSH, YES! BUSH YES!" Mind you, that he lives in a cummunity where he is the ethnic minority (white). GO BUSH!!!

That town is practically a military family housing area. Plenty of active duty and retired military families there, along with Woodbridge, VA
Not in this area. Maybe closer to Quantico in Stafford County. I rarely see any Military Families here any more.
The precint I voted at in Virginia is heavily black and although I have no idea who most were voting for (probably Kerry though) I do have one good story to report; I got at the polls @ 5:45 and I saw a black man placing signs on the street near the school and I assumed it was a Kerry sign. I even mummbled under my breathe a few cuss words. When I left the polling place, I found out it was a Bush sign :}
I just voted in Manassas, VA. Turnout was very heavy. There were two campaign workers outside the polling place. One Bush (female-babe), one sKerry (girly man-dweeb). I took the literature from the girl and the girly man said to me "How about the Democratic viewpoint?" I just glared at him and shook my head in disgust at him.
Juan Williams made an interesting observation on FNC Sunday morning. He noted that a lot more Black clergymen were urging their congregations to vote for Bush and that would have an impact.
The DEM volunteer handing out those blue sKerry sheets of rough toilet paper was standing way off to the side (look of fear and shame on his face was very telling). NO ONE Wanted to walk up to him, blacks, whites, hispanics...NO ONE!
I live in NOVA and I am in the military. I know a lot of military live down there. Most of the Marine active and alum are in Stafford County, as you say.
A lot of Army folks live near Fort Belvoir, VA (Dale City, Lorton, Woodbridge, Springfield).
Regardless, this is great news!

Similiar observation in Del Ray portion (also very diverse) of Alexandria today, with Kerry-pin wearing Dims standing across the street as if on guard, but most voters accepting the GOP sample ballot. Go figure. Alexandria has its hotbeds of Socialists. Took me about an hour from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. but the line moved fairly fast. Very orderly and no unpleasantries. One idiot left his backback outside, unattended and went in to vote. Assume he was a Dim.

that occur throughout our nation!
Here in Illinois those "sample ballots" are either mailed out to registered voters or appear in the newspaper about a week before the election. If you carry a sample ballot
into the booth with you, it has to be out of sight. NO ONE
stands outside the voting place handing them out!! Illegal
as hell here. You ARE allowed to leave the booth and
ask for help in ciphering the ballot, or get another one
if you screw up in marking it.

25 miles south of Washington DC. My dad was a DC cop, and we moved as far from DC as he was allowed to live- 25 miles was down the block from our house.
Proud of the Mrs. She is coming down with the flu, not feeling good at all. However, she pulled herself out of bed at 5:30, and announced "No flu's going to keep me from voting for Bush!" Luckily there were chairs all along the line towards the voting machines, and she was able to sit most of the way.
In Virginia - we have no party registration. Thus -- poll workers hand out sample ballots created by the two parties. Each shows the candidate you should vote for if you are so damn uninformed that you don't know what candidate is your own!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These sample ballots are different from those mailed to voters by the registrars office -- which just shows the layout of the ballot.
In Viorginia -- only national offices carry the party designation. Thus, no other office will identify the party of the candidate on the voting machine.
That's why Virginia's parties use sample ballots to inform their voters.
I voted near Dale City (Woodbridge) and voter turn out is heaviest that I have ever seen. As I approached the polling site there was a table with 3 (girly) men and a sign "VETS for Kerry." When one of them approached me I said in a loud voice "since I believe that Kerry should be in prison for being a traitor, what makes you think I should vote for him?"
I was contacted the other night as well, but gave them a lecture which resulted in their hanging up on me.
