In closing, prosecutor says parenthood pushed Scott Peterson to kill
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. Scott Peterson killed his pregnant wife because fatherhood threatened his "fantasyland" double life as a "rich, successful, freewheeling bachelor," a prosecutor told jurors during closing arguments Monday in his capital murder trial.
Prosecutor Rick Distaso said the fertilizer salesman strangled or smothered his 27-year-old spouse, Laci, in their home on Dec. 23 or Dec. 24, 2002, so he could be free of the lifetime of responsibilities the child would bring.
"He didn't want adult married life. He didn't want Conner Peterson," Distaso said, referring to the child Laci Peterson was carrying.
The prosecutor said Peterson had long maintained two lives "the perfect husband" in public and in private, a cad grudgingly tolerating his marriage but the birth of his first child and the expense of raising the boy or paying child support jeopardized the secret side he treasured.
Story continues .......
"Why did he get married? "
He needs women to "care" for him. They are merely there for his use. As for Amber, this type of man always replaces one woman with another and usually before the divorce, murder, whatever.......
This captured my attention because I have a daughter who is married to someone just as nutty and dangerous. And yes, his family and she will stand by him (cause he's so cute!) until it's too late. I think a lot of people are looking at their own situations with this Peterson story. Learning that the number one cause of death of young women is death by their husband/lovers hand is chilling.
I think it's a matter of relating to one's mind verses their body. If someone meets another and finds them attractive, that fact might mean they are willing to overlook some kind of conduct since they like the person's looks. If one is attracted to another because of their mind, then this is really getting to know that person. Obviously Laci was very attracted to Scott's looks and certainly not his mind.
My heart is in my throat waiting for the headline that says the jury is coming back.
That's strange, how come my post didnt show up?
Oh! never mind now it did!
I agree with you Julie!!
Here is my prediction. If the jury is anywhere near close to agreeing with each other on a verdict they will bring in the virdict on FRIDAY.No one wants to be sequestered over the weekend.
It will be 2 counts of 1st degree.
If a virdict doesn't come in on Friday it will be brought on WEDNESDAY. The virdict then will be 2nd degree for Laci and 1st degree for Conner.
I'll pick the Seahawks in the Super Bowl.... 35 - 18 final score. :)
Just announced on CTV the foreperson on the Jury is Juror #5...the lawyer and doctor who took the best (most) notes.
"IF deliberations go over two weeks, the jury is hung."
I think they will be highly motivated to wrap this up by the middle of next week as one of the jurors is scheduled for surgery. If she is replaced it is my understanding that they would have to start over. Therefore, if we don't have a verdict by next Thursday, we can safely assume they are having difficulties.
"Scott sure had that SMUG I'M GONNA GET OFF look wiped off his face during the rebuttal, didn't he?"
Perhaps he is beginning to understand that he might not get away with this.
"Heard some transcripts were read or asked from the jurors?"
I think the jury asked to see some exhibits, however, the media doesn't know which ones. Darn!

And when the guilty verdict comes down Scott will shout back to Jackie: "Mom, why didn't you get me off! It's all your fault". And she'll say: "Sorry, baby, I tried, I tried, I wuv you!"
And we'll be able to hear it! lol
Thank you Judge Delucci. :-D
I espect to hear Jackie fly over the seats and try to hurt Sharon when he's found guilty. I was surprised what a feeling of relief I had when I heard that Sharon has been assigned protection during the trial.
Scott can almost taste the turkey and cranberry sauce now... Bwahahaha!
Pinz
At first Judge Deluchi was going to let the verdit be on camera but I think it was last Thur/Fri he changed his mind.
Did he change it again?
Yep! I understand that Swanson's makes a killer Thanksgiving TV Dinner under their jailhouse contract. :)
If you want to get irritated just watch the collection of absolute defense idiots on LKL tonight. The only redemption of that show tonight was of course Nancy G. and Chuck Smith!! grrrrrrrrrrr
