Some specific observations...
I voted this AM in Massachusetts.
The town is blanketed in signs for local and state GOP candidates but only a smattering of Bush/Cheney signs. There are virtually no 'Rat signs. In past elections the 'Rat signs have sprouted in the day before the election but none this year.
It's my normal practice to be first at the polls. I like being the first ballot cast. Despite getting there earlier than usual I was greeted by a line of 50 people waiting for the doors to open. Everyone was dead silent - no talking at all. Weird.
Folks in nearby towns are reporting heavy early voting as well.
The local Boston sports talk radio show is conducting a poll. I know it's a highly biased sample (sports fans) but Bush is winning massively.
A Plea
It is critically important that conservatives don't take their eye off the ball.
As serious a matter as the war on terrorism is, as important as you may find other issues, the battle for the courts trumps all.
With looming retirements and the Democrat filibusters, control of the upper levels of the judiciary is at a tipping point.
The result of this election will be felt for decades, if not for centuries, as the wake of Court decisions spreads out throughout society.
The Left is losing power in the state legislatures, in the Federal legislature and rarely holds the White House. They're even now feeling pressure in the Academy and in the Press.
Their last refuge is with a radical judiciary. This is why their electoral strategy is to throw as much mud as possible and get close elections in front of sympathetic judges. The Left must not get control of the courts now.
This election is a challenge to "Broken Glass" Republicans and anyone who cares about what kind of country they leave to their grandchildren.
Don't let complacency, intimidation, laziness, the weather or anything stop you from going to the polls.
We have been raised up as a great nation by the strong arms of patriots. Let us do our best to honor generations past and to protect generations to come. In the spirit of Bunker Hill, Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Iwo Jima, Normandy, Bastogne, Chosin Reservoir, Tet, Desert Storm, Afghanistan and Iraq, go out, do your duty without stint, without regard to trial, tribulation or threat and VOTE!

I agree with you about the composition of the judiciary. That issue may be more important than the war on terror. It has flown under the radar all year.

For the very first time in my small Massachusetts town (23,000), I had to stand in line for more than a half hour. Despite being Massachusetts, two things were different this year:
1) The local activists who always had their house and yard festooned with Gore signs last time had an empty yard.
2) Suddenly, overnight, BUSH CHENEY signs had appeared by the dozen, in yards on the way to the polls.
Granted, there is no hope of a "Favorite Son" losing this state, but it is not going to be won by as much as people think.
I may go back a little later with a Bush sign for giggles but will probably save it for the meltdown in Copley Square.....Just like watching the First Night Ice Sculptures melt.
A hearty AMEN to that!! I've seen only a very few Kerry signs on lawn in my town in East Central MA. They've been about equal with Bush signs. Most signs are for local candidates, but I've had MY Bush/Cheney sign out for weeks. A neighbor up the street has signs for the two local DIM candidates, but NOT one for Kerry. ;o)
I'm pretty sure we all know how important this election is, we'll be there in numbers, don't worry. Today is the day when the Silent Majority speaks up to be heard. The leftwing media has overplayed their hand. They think they're only talking to liberals, but we all are listening, and we'll make sure the liberals are soundly defeated.
Thank you Paine for your post. I haven't been to vote yet as my 13 year old wants to go with me so I will wait until about 3:30. Hubby is going out at 10:00. Will ask him for his observations afterward. Go Bush!
Noticed here in the Acton area BC signs sprouted yesterday. Very few Kerry signs. I smell a lot of frustrated repub/ind voters getting to vote for someone for a change. Romney did the right things getting many candidates to run. I Kerry gets < 60% of the vote in MA, I think he is toast in the country by a wide margin.
Is he....NERVOUS?

My town is 3000 people in central Mass. Will vote late tonite.
blarney is hoping for a kerry win. he want to be a senator. (God save us!)...on another subject, my 88year old diehard JFK democrat Nana told me yesterday that she refuses to vote for kerry. She said he's no JFK. I love it! Go GW!

Thanks for your wonderful post! I voted last week for President George W. Bush and VP Richard Cheney! The rest of your "plea" should be read by everyone before they vote, so that they know that voting is a duty and responsibility as well as a privilege, and that an INFORMED vote is crucial to the well-being of America.
Yes, it's about the WOT, and security of our nation, BUT, BUT a victory abroad and destruction from within by a rogue, activist judiciary still means a ravaged nation.
The nomination of judges must be a #1 issue this election!
Will be voting in MA later today, but don't get your hopes up for the people's republic.
