Under Ohio law, challengers can question a voter's identity, age, residency or citizenship before the person receives a ballot.
The precinct's presiding judge then questions the voter and decides whether he or she can cast a regular ballot or a "provisional" ballot that would not be counted until election officials determine the voter's eligibility at a later date.
When I voted this morning I noticed that another name listed on the page my name was on should have been removed. I did point this out to them and they said they would look into it.
All this is nice, but the roles of registered voters should be purged regularly, because a large numbe of people move or die every year. All these empty slots can be "filled" by people with false identification.
This used to be a big city joke, but now it has gone national.
I'm ready for the idea of using driver's lecenses and state IDs for voting. For the democrats this makes registration easy or automatic. For the Republicans it provides a way of detecting double voting.

I heard on the news this morning that the Supreme court declined to hear it so pollwatchers will be allowed.
To me, the real motivation for having poll watchers is that someone is less likely to commit fraud if they think they are being watched. Who wants to go to jail for a lousy vote? In 2000, the city of St. Louis kept the polls open until 11 PM and had dogs voting. The feds sent in observers, did nothing more, and suddenly people were done by 7 PM and no dogs voted. After all, people are less likely to shoplift if the clerk is standing at the end of the aisle. Voting is the same thing for thieves. Why risk it?
What is the real penalty for double voting? I've heard that in South Florida, early voters will be able to vote again today. This will be easy to catch, since you must sign your name, and eventually, double voters will be found.
But what is the penalty, realistically? I've never heard of anyone being prosecuted.
There was also a Democrat precinct captain who was stopped after the election for speeding in FL and the cop found a FL voting machine with perforated ballots in the trunk. I believe that person was prosecuted but in the to-do about Florida, the story was lost.
In Ohio there is no picture ID required to vote.
In my town, a few years ago they found out that a non-citizen had been voting and they deported him. I forget if he had to serve time before he was deported though. It came to light when he got called for jury duty. When they asked him if he was a citizen he said no. In Ohio we get our jury pool from registered voters.
just voted in franklin county oh. this is the conservative, republican portion of the corner, in the northwest. very heavy turn out. reports of 2 hour waits at 8am. i had a 1 hr turn wait at 10am. i talked to a couple of workers and they said things were going smoothly, so
far -- but this is conservative country.
We do need some sort of federal consistency between states, much like driver's licenses. Nothing about having to show a picture ID threatens individual liberty.
