CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- A study has found that air rifles, paintball pistols and BB guns injure as many as 21,000 Americans each year, undermining the notion that such weapons are harmless in the hands of young people. Nonpowder guns kill an average of four Americans yearly, and from 1990 to 2000, there were 39 such deaths -- 32 of children younger than 15, according to a report in November's issue of Pediatrics. The report, published Monday, comes just two weeks after the BB gun death of an 8-year-old South Carolina boy accidentally killed by a 13-year-old friend. The pellet pierced the boy's heart, said Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.

Fortunately for gunfoes, there are enough idiots out there who don't teach their children the proper way to handle anything: guns, drills, staplers...
FOUR!? These folks ought to be campaigning against balloons, garage door openers and pillows instead. They each kill more than four children per year!
WTF? No responsible gun owner I know would EVER say that. My first lesson upon receiving a Red Ryder BB gun was "NEVER point this at any living thing unless you intend to kill it."
Only if you aim right.
First gun was a crossman pump pellet/bb. Still have it.
Second gun was a crossman pistol bb, co2.
Third was a crossman bb, co2, looked like a uzi, no dayglo.
Fourth I bought this summer is a crossman spring bb/pellet.
Still have all 3. Still shoot em.
And CDC records indicate that over 42 million babies have died since 1969, a great majority of scalpel wounds to the head! Which is worse?
I like to get drunk and go swimming with my BB gun.
You should put yourself in for a Purple Heart. :-)
I used to take the suction cup off and sharpen the end with my trusty pocket knife.
Such is life............
When I was a kid (I'm currently verticle at the age of 54) we used to have BB-gun gun fights. When we ran out of BBs, we'd throw stones at each other. The fun was hugh, and no one was ever series hurt. I'm still gunfighting with my 23 year old son (today we wear eye protection). Boink... We count/compare blister shots. Only pump the Sheridan to 4.
Oh brother.
Well they kill millions of furry pests too, and hey, the good outweighs the bad. ;-)
You got that right. I wonder how many youngsters are injured by abortion and premarital sex?
That was 40+ years ago for me. Mine has long since worn out. About 20 years ago I did get another one that is very similar to the one I had as a kid and I use it quite often for shooting snakes.
I saw a movie where a bad guy drowned his adversary but droning him in a bowl of soup. I remember my Dad saying that most any/everthing on the planet can be termed, "dangerous." Too much sunshine causes skin-cancer. Too much rain causes depression in the NW and people commit suicide. Too much swimming will get y'all swallowed by a gator or a shark... The list is endless...
This statements confirms my personal belief that liberals are hatched in some kind of bio-farm. All real human beings know that there is nothing anyone can do to prevent some kids from doing mind-shatteringly stupid things.
As a former kid myself, the list of mindless idiocy I routinely tried is too long to summarize here.
Only mild torture and extreme humiliation worked with me.
Isn't shooting any rifle (even a .22) into the air dangerous to anyone within a few miles?
"Binge"
My brother still has a BB in the side of his face at age 46 from a shot at age 10. He survived and so did all the rest of us who have been shot by them.
What a wuss society they are trying to turn us into!!! I remember as a kid being bored enough one summer day to get my brothers to help me gather sticks to store in our treehouse - when we had enough, we proceeded to pick a fight with the neighbors so we would have someone to throw them at :) ok, so I was a Tomboy......
I don't know if your're series or not. I ended up in worse shape than the kid when we were in BB gun fights. I survived. Are all of of supposed to live in a cave and eat vegetables the rest of our lives? The trial lawyers and soccer moms just don't get it. Rewind 250 years ago. Kids were run over by cattle on the range... The list is endless.
