Wrong. The MA legislature changed the law this year so the Republican Governor no longer chooses his successor. A new election happens early next year to fill the slot, and it'll be a Democrat.

The Mass legislature was attempting to pass a law that if Kerry was elected the people would vote on his replacement instead of the Gov. appointing someone.

No. The rat infested Mass. state 'congress' have made a new law.

The MA legislature changed the replacement process, so it's done by special election now. Not by Gubernatorial appointment.

Nope, the dems have changed the law in MA, and it calls for a special election in Jan for his seat. Barney Frank and Ed Markey have been running commercials reminding people all they have done for them. I think they are jokeying for the run. On a postive note, they haven't run a lot of ads, so they may not be expecting a Kerry win.

If (G. forbid) Kerry wins, there will be a special election and so far all the candidates who have expressed
interest (Mass. Reps. Marty Meehan, Barney Frank,
and Steve Capuano plus D.A. Martha Coakley, IIRC) are
Dems. I don't know if the GOP can put up anyone who
could win (Mass. then-Gov. Bill Weld failed to knock
off Lurch in '96).
If Kerry loses he's not up for re-election till 2008.
(Elected in '84, '90, '96, '02 IIRC). Chappaquiddick
Ted is up for re-election in '06 and yes he is running.

Normally, the governor, who happens to be (R), would appoint his replacement. But as they are wont to do, the dems changed the rules in MA to fit their needs, so the chances of it being another socialist are very high.

Don't worry, though, by Wednesday it will be a moot point.

ooh, that reminds me, yes, Fast Eddie Markey also is interested. Originally the law called for the gov.
(currently a Republican, Mitt Romney) to appoint a temporary successor to Kerry but the Dems changed the rule.
(I think Ted Kennedy benefitted from the old rule; he
was appointed by the then-gov. of Mass.--Foster Furcolo?--
to a temporary turn then won on his own. So much for
keeping the old rule...since it didn't benefit them,
the Dems changed it.
