Earlier today, former Cincinnati Reds catcher Johnny Bench introduced President Bush at a rally at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati:
In Cincinnati, I have to think Bench's endorsement is worth some votes. President Bush has gotten some striking athletic endorsements--Bench, John Elway, Curt Schilling, and quite a few others--while, as far as I know, Kerry has gotten none. Maybe that's why Kerry is so obsessive about throwing balls around at airports.
Now, if only the Bush campaign could land Brett Favre...
UPDATE: Hah! It's true what they say about Karl Rove. Dusty Tryggestad writes:
Actually, my mom recieved a recorded message from Brett Favre supporting Bush. Reference was made to today's win vs the Redskins. I would imagine this is playing all over Wisconsin. I think this could make the difference in Wisconsin. I mean, really.

"Would you stand in line 6 hours to vote "against" a candidate, or would you be more inclined to stand in line, even in the rain, to vote "for" someone?"
I see in those lines of early voters in Florida and Ohio alot of people with children and older folk. I cannot believe that these people are there to vote "against" a man who, if nothing else, has not wavered in his resolve since 9/11.
To the contrary I believe these people are standing in line out of respect for our troops and President. I think it's their silent and personal way of showing their support.
I also think that, like many of us here, they are scared at what might happen to us if Kerry is elected.
My friends THE POLLS ARE WRONG!!!! DO NOT DESPAIR!!!
I am predicting a Bush landslide, because I believe in the goodness of the American people and I cannot believe that the majority of voters in this country "hate our president."
May God bless this country and all of you at FR. It's been fun.
Sincerely,
Nick
Your post is GREAT! I certainly wouldn't stand in line hours to vote for a candidate in protest. Republicans didn't do that in 1996 for Dole.
People voted IMHO because they wanted to make sure their vote counted for the President. My brother stood in line in Orlando and he is a solid Bush backer! Someone told me in Pensacola there was one lone person holding a Kerry sign in front of the Court House. The Florida Panhandle is going to come through big time for President Bush!
OMG!!!! Bret Favre on record supporting Bush? This is the first I've heard this.
I hated to post a vanity, so I decided to pose my question to you all. I realize that stumping around the swing states fires up your base- but my question is, the people who attend the rallies (for either candidate) are strong supporters- how does it reach those undecided or swing voters if they don't come. I guess I'm just trying to understand campaigning better- (I'm no Karl Rove) but is it what they do while their there (door knocking, etc) besides the stump speeches that make a difference? I live in KY- has John Kerry ever been here (just wondering)
For the sports ignorants among us: who is Favre?
Well, the Green Bay Packers have a history of supporting conservative causes. After all, in Rush Limbaugh's first book The Way Things Ought to Be, Limbaugh mentioned that the Green Bay Packers' locker room literally became a Rush Room with players, coaches and trainers listening in on Rush's radio show on weekdays live.
BRETT FAVRE IS THE QUARTERBACK OF THE GREEN BAY PACKERS. PROBABLY THE MOST POPULAR MAN IN WISCONSIN NEXT TO VINCE LOMBARDI, AND THE LATTER IS CURRENTLY WATCHING THE ELECTION FROM HEAVEN.

Head coach Mike Tice of the Vikings introduced the President in Minnesota over the weekend.
A former tight end himself, Tice has done a fantasic job rebuilding the Vikings into one of the NFL's top teams since taking over a few years ago.
Bumping your encouraging optimism
I hear Muhammad Ali is a Republican as well.
Many athletes are.
The guy that plays at Lambert Field.
Wasn't he that guy that was in "There's Something about Mary?"
