I am not sure why the GOP failed to use the Gay marriage this issue in Northeastern Ohio more forcefully. Kerry signs are everywhere and Bush is being hammered relentlessly for "exporting jobs." No defense is ever offered. The Bush camp is running on the security issue here and it is not playing to well. Folks here have been convinced that we are going through another Great Depression and it is Bush's fault. They have not been convinced that Iraq was an immediate threat to their personal security.

On a positive note, the Bush camp has been sending out some superb direct mail pieces on the cultural issues. If people are reading their direct mail, Bush may be able to eke out Ohio. If they are throwing it in the trash while being mezmerized by not stop "Bush exported jobs" TV ads, Bush will lose Northeastern Ohio by over 200,000 votes, and Kerry will eke out Ohio.

Today's gospel reading (Maronite Rite), was on the Final Judgement, when our Lord will separate those who "fed, clothed and visited Him", from those who did not. Our pastor used this gospel to deliver a very powerful homily on the election. He said the Catholic Church can't dictate how to vote; they are responsible to remind us though of church teachings. There is NO way a christian can endorse a candidate who is pro-abortion! There is no way a a christian can endorse a candidate who seeks to destroy the traditional family. We as catholics have a duty to examine the stands taken by all politicians and vote accordingly. God bless this priest!!!

The official position of the Catholic Church on Gay Unions:
CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING PROPOSALS TO GIVE LEGAL RECOGNITION TO UNIONS BETWEEN HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS

In the Catholic tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue; participation in the political process is a moral obligation.

I would guess it's playing honestly, and well enough. But Bush is crippled with the same sort of campaign staff as his father. No Bush, yet, has shown they know how to run a campaign. The ONLY traction they've gotten is from the Swifties - and they aren't even on the payroll, and their more prominent spokesmen are Democrats!

Kerry ought to refer to his Bible (if he has one) where the subject of homosexuality is sandwiched between bestiality and incest, all in the same chaper. And then he ought to shut up.

"I believe in the church and I care about it enormously," said the Massachusetts senator. "But I think that it's important to not have the church instructing politicians. That is an inappropriate crossing of the line in America."

It's separation of the POWERS of church and state you GUBER. The church can and should speak out regarding politicians and these issues. In fact they have a MORAL OBLIGATION to do so. YOU, JOHN KERRY, just don't like what the Vatican is saying.

After the election, win or lose, Kerry should be officially excommunicated. We don't need people like him confusing everyone. Kerry is NOT a Catholic and he needs to go NOW. Find a church that better represents your lack of morality.

Of course it is his duty, but it is his duty to apologize to his fellow soldiers, officers for what he did in VietNam, and when he returned from VietNam. I don't see that happening either.

Perhaps; priests are probably wasting their time instructing politicians.

Statesmen, on the other hand, would probably pay attention to what thier church elders had to say, considering themselves accountable to the church they claim to "believe in."

People like Kerry give Catholicism a bad name (if that were possible).
