President Bush instructed top homeland and national security advisers on Saturday to "take all actions that might be necessary" to respond to the new message from Osama bin Laden, the White House said.

National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice was with the president in Columbus; other participants included Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, CIA Director Porter Goss, deputy CIA director John McLaughlin, Attorney General John Ashcroft, FBI Director Robert Mueller and Rice counterterrorism deputy Fran Townsend.

Typically Bin Laden comes out on a tape and warns, and this is followed by a terrorist attack. It's Al Qaeda's hallmark.

Wasn't there a post last week about the FBI looking for some men wanting to buy ambulances in Florida? Perhaps Florida polling places are the target with a car bomb. From OBL's twisted point of view, this would be a twofer or a threefer. Disrupt the elections, strike at Bush through the "province" governed by his brother, and kill Jews. Most likely spot is where the major media attention was in 2000.

Bin Laden is not going to harm his best supporters, Kerry and Edwards.

I just remembered that a Dem Senator closed his office in Washington DC, after the Senators got some intel brief.

I think there is a serious threat to Washington DC, but it could be anything -- just think of school children in Beslan.

Why would bin laden and al queada be telegraphing their punch if indeed they plan to attack on or just before the election? I find it hard to believe that they are that tactically ritarded after what they pulled off on 9/11.

Of course, there's always the chance of another succesful terrorist attack, but putting the U.S. on notice would certainly diminish their chances of pulling one off.

Obviously we still have work to do. I was about 95% convinced that Bin Laden was dead since we hadn't heard from him in a very long time. Unfortunatly that is not the case.

The war on terror is not yet won, but we are winning. We will never bow to the demands of terrorists like Bin Laden. We will hunt them down and bring them to justice. It will take time, and we have not a minute to waste, let alone four years of the likes of John Kerry.

We need the strong determined leadership of President George W. Bush for four more years. The choice has never been clearer.

OK, so the same rules would apply. Would the dems be able to put someone else in at the last minute in that situation(before the election)? Like in NJ, and the Wellstone death?

All of us (Dem or Republican) are OBL's enemy IMO. His objective is to see America in ruins. Any way that he can find to disrupt the economy or leadership would be fine with him.

I just want a clear, clean, huge victory for W on Tuesday. Everything else follows from that.

Well I don't think it's a secret that they would like to sway elections with acts of terrorism. The question is will they be able to pull it off? We have thwarted quite a few of their attacks since 9/11. We may disagree on whether the tapes are more hype then reality in this case, but I'm sure that we agree they are not to be taken lightly under any circumstance.

If they do pull one off, God forbid, we will not be swayed. This isn't Spain (Spain made a big mistake, but I guess you know that).

Pray for a peaceful election and God willing, four more years of President Bush.

Well, "to take necessary actions" should have been a standing order since 1776, with no special communication from the top needed for the purpose.
Thus you must be right, a lot is going on behind the scenes, and this particular announcement is just extremely poorly worded, IMHO.

They can and do raise the level w/LEO is probable areas. It is the media that tries to publicize these threats. Maybe they won't this time, figuring it would hurt their boy.

Public threat levels just encourage the cynics to spout that it is political.

Osama finally comes out from his cave Outer Mongolia with his political endorsement. That boring speech had so many Michael Mooreon quotes, he must be getting the Old York Times delivered?? Yawn said that he had world leaders who were hoping that he would become President and now we know who he was talking about. Since he could have easily captured this murderer, he must have been in constant communication. After all, Yaawn Cut & Run Kerry is the most brilliant Armchair General and Monday Morning QB in the Country. Komrade Kerry knows everything about everything, just ask him a veritable Cliff Claven.

The first moment that Yaawn hears about Osama bin Hidin threatening the United States election and it’s people what is Yaawn’s response? Does he state we are unified in defeating this animal? No, he piles on the military, America and the President to score the cheapest of political points. This fits him like a T, he hates the military, America and the President with every vote he has cast or speech given. In unscripted moments, the true John Kerry comes out, the one we saw in 1971, he says that the military failed to catch Osama. Fact is, if Kerry, Clinton or Gore were presidents we would not have even been in Afghanistan. They all said that it was going to be another Vietnam and none of them had the spine to attack a sovereign country. So Osama would still be in his compounds outside of Kabul training terrorists for the next American attack.

We have the country’s most vile enemy attacking our President and our people and what is the first thing out of his mouth. “I would have captured or killed Osama!” What a piece of garbage to make an empty statement when this terrorist is threatening our women and children. First, track records for Rat CIC’s in war is very weak, but assuming he would have let the dogs loose and he ever got to the point our troops got to in Tora Bora, how you going to smoke him out? This is the most inaccessible land in the world. 20,000 foot mountains in the roadless areas between Pakistan and Afghanistan, tell us how YOU would catch him Yaawn??

Comrade Kerry is always the first to criticize our troops, but he never tells us exactly what he can do better. Our main mistake in Tora Bora was we became too sensitive to the terrorists and gave them a cease fire to surrender which is when they escaped. That is what Comrade Kerry would do in Iraq and is why Osama endorsed him. He is tired of raising goats in Outer Mongolia. He wants back in the game like when BJ clinton was treating him like a “nuisance” and is pining for a Kerry return to those days.

He misses the days when he could blow up or murder Americans at will and we would treat it like a police action. Threaten to hunt them down and kill them anywhere, any time yada, yada, yada and then wait for the next attack. He misses the days when the military option was not an option and our military was a meals-on-wheels brigade and no threat to Osama. Yeah, he is hoping and praying that Comrade Kerry will get elected and bring back the good ol days for terrorism when American blood flowed freely in the streets.

George W Bush changed all that! He told the military to sick-um and they did. Now terrorists are either dead or hiding for fear of their lives. Osama has not been able to attack this country once and is losing dozens of men a day. He knows that after GW is elected he is a dead man. He knows that the military is the finest and brightest military in the history of the world. He knows that GW will let the military adapt and destroy with an efficiency that he cannot match. He knows that his only chance of survival now is to get Yaawn elected. He knows that if President Bush is elected he will end up on the Ash Heap of History. Let’s pray America figures out what Osama has.

So in desperation he gives a rambling, long winded monotone speech that was laced heavily with attacks on the President and our military with wild claims from Michael Moore to fire-up his base. Pretty much a Yaawn Cut & Run stump speech who is now his number one fan so Blood will run once again in America’s streets.

Pray for W and Our Election

Right, the point though is that it's a reason for OBL to attack there, to throw the election into confusion. He has proved himself something of an unoriginal thinker with references to My Pet Goat and so forth.

Once the dust settles, I'd like to hear some analysis of the timing of the "Amman the American" tape just ahead of the UBL tape. Why? Contrary to popular MSM opinion, I thought UBL looked sickly, and certainly not tan. Also, the tape was unlike many previous tapes. No AK-47, virtually no animation, not much Islamo-Fascist rhetoric other that the perfunctory crap. The minority of the MSM actually admitted that the UBL message showed weakness, like our efforts really had an effect on the entire Islamo-Fascist movement.

Bin Laden hired Michael Moore as his speechwritier. After all, they have a common goal: to defeat Bush.

I heard an analyst on TV say, that Bin Laden is trying to "transition from a terrorist to a statesman", to increase perception of his "legitimacy" as a leader of the world.

In Kerry's case, he transitioned himself from a self-admitted war criminal, somehow obtaining legitimacy, and now wants to become the leader of the world. I'd say they have a lot in common. All Binny needs to do is find a rich wife, and get a President or two to wipe away his history.

Why do you think Bin Laden is supporting Kerry?

Kerry will probably invite Bin Laden to the White House for "peace negotiations".
