They're, um, mounting the Duck boats in Fenway Park, and it dawns on me that Kurt Schilling, who endorsed Bush on Good Morning America this week, is nowhere to be seen.
Then it dawned on me that every *other* Sox player spoke in Fenway before they started the parade *but* Schilling.
Amazing. Vengence is mine, says the War Hero, by way of Mumbles Menino...
"Maybe there's a clause in his contract that says he can't make political endorsements."
What is the front office going to do, fire the hero of the World Series?
I believe he caved as well, and I am dissapointed.
My previous post was just reporting on the ongoing parade activities.
This is unfortunate. This is really unfortunate. Are the fans mad at him or is management persecuting him? If I were Him, I'd go to the Yankees. F Boston.
For a picture of Curt Schilling with a cast and on crutches at today's parade, see:

Curt's in pretty bad shape for too much running around, such as campaigning. He is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday, if his ankle is not too infected.
However, I believe the stories that he may have been pressured by union goons, etc., not just with respect to endorsements, but also over his and his wife's charitable activity. As I posted before on FR, that's just plain DESPICABLE!!!! It is also not out of line with some of my own experiences with union strong-arm tactics, which at one point effectively shut me up by getting me kicked out of a certain community organization.
Whatever happened, I think that it is premature, at the least, to say that "Shilling caved". We may find out more about this incident eventuallly, hopefully before the election where it might hurt Kerry. But just the fact that Shillling is for Bush says a lot, and makes the "Kerry-Red Sox" association blow up in Kerry's face!
According to one article I saw on Google News, Schilling called a Boston radio station and said that around half of the Red Sox are for Bush and the other half are for Kerry. (Schilling is just more outspoken than the other Bush supporters.) Once again, this shows that the idea that Kerry has been promoting, that he is and should be associated with the Red Sox and their victory, is just pure BUNK!!!!
I'm sure he got pressure from somebody, which is why he cancelled. I just wish he hadn't used the ankle excuse to beg out of the campaign -- it looks mighty weak for him to say it, when he's not only in this parade, but spent Thursday at Disney World!
Now, I don't know much about Schilling. However, I don't think it is fair to conclude (so quickly) that Schilling lacks "Character"...especially based on what you saw on TV.
Read post 45...it highlights some relevant details to make a better case for Schilling.
We're talking Boston, here. Kennedy and Kerry and the DNC literally OWN the city. The local DNC house organ, the Boston Globe, is owned by the DNC's national house organ, the New York Times.
The owners of the Boston Red Sox absolutely MUST get along with these animals. I have no doubt that the word came down in no uncertain terms to shut Schilling up. That's reality, and "free speech" has nothing to do with it.
If you got a sec, would you mind correcting the spelling of Curt Schilling's first name?
Could it be that Schilling has a family? Family should come first. I don't know one way or the other. The point is, perhaps towards the end of the busy baseball season he PROMISED to take his family to Disneyland on a designated day???
Let's not rush to judgement...Kerry is already doing a fine job of doing that by pushing another fake story to hurt Bush. This time about explosives. Although Kerry's assertions are sort of ironic since the "missing" munitions could be considered "WMD's". <sarc
No, Schilling was getting paid by Disney to appear in their parade, and to film a commercial there. That's fine, but he shouldn't have claimed that he didn't have medical clearance to travel with Bush, when he just flew to and from Disney World the day before. If Schilling had even just said something like he wanted this weekend to be about celebrating the Red Sox, and not talking about politics, that would have been fine. But using the ankle as a crutch is pretty bad.
Incidentally, it ticks me off anyway that he had to back out on this. Literally hundreds of celebrities have used their fame to support Kerry, and the rest of the media doesn't bat an eye over it. But when one Republican celebrity actually supports the president, the media gets in a tizzy.
I know unfortunately Curt cancelled his appearance with Bush in New Hampshire (for whatever reason), but I understand he made some phone recordings for Bush for NH voters. I'm just as disappointed as other FReepers are that he didn't make that appearance, and also suspect that he "caved" in some way. But until I know what actually happened, all I'm going to say is I'm happy he made his pro-Bush statement on Good Morning America.
That being said, it really pained me to see Sox owners John Henry and Tom Werner (not Larry Lucchino, though) and Gen. Manager Theo Epstein up there onstage with Jean Fraud Kerry today in NH, clapping at everything Kerry said. Put a bit of a damper on an otherwise happy weekend in Boston.
>:-(
Thanks.
Interesting! That's what I suspected all along.
That makes me feel a little better after witnessing Sox owners John Henry and Tom Werner (sans Larry Lucchino) and Gen. Manager Theo Epstein onstage today with sKerry in Manchester, NH, clapping at everything he said and presenting him with a flaming red "Boston Red Sox - World Series Champions 2004" T-shirt.
Clear as mud!
Theo is gay, it doesn't surprise me in the least.
I thought I heard Theo was engaged to be married...?
I echo your thoughts. I lost a lot of respect for Theo Epstein when he shilled for Kerry. A shame because he is a bright young kid who will probably be an integral part of the Red Sox for decades to come. But he'll probably come around at some point - don't lose hope.
Andysmom, how do you know that Theo Epstein is gay?
The Red Sox owners and general manager's presenting Kerry with the red Sox championship shirt is just another of Kerry's attempts to transfer the aura around the Sox to him. As exemplified by Curt Shilling, this is COMPLETELY BOGUS!!!!
Moreover, if the Sox had taken the Kerry approach, they would have given up after losing three straight to the Yankees, and blown game four. Americans should REPUDIATE the Kerry aproach on Tuesday, since we are "playing" against Bin Laden, the Iranian mullahs, and George Soros for much higher stakes than even the first World Series victory in 86 years.
That's so cool you got to go to the parade. Who got the biggest ovation of all the players?

IMHO, either management leaned on him, or his advertising sponsors did, I think. I read his comments on bostondirtdogs.com, and it sounds to me like somebody got to him. It ticks me off that it's "controversial" for him to support the Commander in Chief, when the libs push their politics down our throats 24/7.

What hypocrisy. Curt Schilling campaigning with Bush is divisive, but it's fine for them to be seen with Kerry? And John Henry is probably that only person in America who would make Kerry look charismatic!
