Looking at money contributed as a proxy for votes, we have taken a stab at showing which party dominates different areas of the country. The darker the color, the more of a landslide it was for the winning party. (Need to go to site to see map in different views - lots of red)

Checked my neighborhood in SF and there were only 4 donations from the long list that were going to Kerry or Edwards. And two of those were from the same person--a well known trial lawyer in town. But there were dozens and dozens to Bush or the RNC,

Checked my neighborhood in SF and there were only 4 donations from the long list that were going to Kerry or Edwards Despite all the hype and blather...I think about 40% of the greater Bay area votes republican. OK...it may be 30%, but the point is, as your post notes, there are Republicans in the Bay Area.

In my home state of Florida it looks like Kerry has solid support form Lake Okeechobee, but little more.
